Just want to know... If they can say si-ven why can't they say six?
And if they say six like sex how do they say sex? _________________ - "Number 42? I see you've got Darren Millane in the Heaven footy side"

Lol, this is kind of funny, cos one of my lecturers is a kiwi... ironically, my Linguistics lecturer
they say their short 'e' sounds as a short 'i' (hence saying, 'siven'), and they pronounce their short 'i's as almost glottal stops. So, six sounds kind of like something in between s'x and sux, and sex sounds like six.
So, to cut a long story short, if we were to have a discussion about the number six, they would probably think we're talking about something else _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

I always thought the easiest way to learn to speak like a Kiwi was to just remove all the vowels from the words.

Glottal stops eh? That makes it clear as freakin crystal for me then. But thanks.
And I think they find the sheep "very enjoyable" in long grass
Aussie to Kiwi shepherd, among a herd of very wooly sheep: "Do you ever shear them?"
Kiwi shepherd: "Nah puss off and find your own". _________________ - "Number 42? I see you've got Darren Millane in the Heaven footy side"

Hal's a bot. ie, software.
he's a bit like the bogeyman, you can summon him by saying his name (like you did) or he sometimes just comes and joins in when you don't expect it.
As far as NZ being another state of Oz, potentially an interesting idea. There's more of them here than over there. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |
