My Dad has that one on LP, never heard it though.

I wonder if people will look back on bands like Nine Inch Nails as being as important as the Beatles? While I think the former has had at least as much musical influence (over a whole generation of music), it seems unlikely that any band will ever knock The Beatles off their pedestal. I think their secret was to make pretty generic pop songs for a few years, become immensely popular, and then reveal their true artistic ability in the mid to late 60s when they had a captive audience.

The Sex Pistols were another incredibly influential band. Even though Depeche Mode, Joy Division (later New Order), U2 and The Cure may sound nothing like that band, all of them, I believe, cited the Sex Pistols and similar groups as their dominant influences. And those bands listed have in turn had considerable influence since the peak of their popularity in the 80s.

Really don't mind if you sit this one out.

My words but a whisper -- your deafness a SHOUT.
I may make you feel but I can't make you think.
Your sperm's in the gutter -- your love's in the sink.
So you ride yourselves over the fields and
you make all your animal deals and
your wise men don't know how it feels to be thick as a brick.
And the sand-castle virtues are all swept away in
the tidal destruction
the moral melee.
The elastic retreat rings the close of play as the last wave uncovers
the newfangled way.
But your new shoes are worn at the heels and
your suntan does rapidly peel and
your wise men don't know how it feels to be thick as a brick.

What an opening.
