How good was that 9 point goal the other night! I realy hope he takes a few more shots at goal from outside the 50 this year.

He had another go at one earlier that missed. The commentators got really excited because they thought he could not miss.
The 9 er is a winner and I'd love to see it in regular use. Why? Because we have the most to gain. All outr long kickers are also accurate long kickers.
Bucks is the man though. Whenever I see him take the ball in the centre and run, I'll think "here comes a 9 er"

Sensational! So good to watch. I thought the boys would kick a few 9'ers. As mentioned we have some great long kickers. So it definatly helps our cause. It makes the comp. exciting, gives a good buzz around the ground.

So what do you think would be a good name for the 9 pointer???
6 pointer is a goal, obviously.
I liked "Super Goal" as used by Gary Lyon on friday night but have since heard a better name on 3AW Sports tonight.
"A Firkin"
A Firkin is the name for a 9 gallon beer barrell, sometimes also called a 9'er.
Just imagine Eddie - "Rocca lets fly with a torp from centre half back and it goes through for another firkin goal for the Pies!!"

"Super Goal" is the officially sanctioned AFL name for the 9 er.
So we can't call it that.

This thread has been going for almost 14 hours and not a comment from Kristan5.
She must be jumping on the Didak bandwagon.

I thought I'd spare people the ravings of an obsessed lunatic but, due to popular demand , here goes:
Nath's goal was the best kick ever in the history of the VFL/AFL! The way he was so poised as he ran towards goal, and then bombed it in with little or no regard to the vast distance which had to be covered, and then to do it with such sweet accuracy, oh, it's enough to bring a tear to my eye and a massive smile to my face!
Seriously, it was an awesome kick, but one which we've come to expect from the Magnificent Nath over the past 10 years. I say BRING IN THE 9 POINTER, it'd suit Nath (and the whole Collingwood team) perfectly!

After Buckley retires ... immediately following our 10th consecutive premiership in 2012 ... the 9-point goal should be called the "Buckley".

I would like to ask a stupid question......If this 9 pointer is so good, why dont the AFL introduce it into play,BUT not have the umpire stick his hands in the air,but some other signal and other coloured flags would do the trick.
Would this look better for the teams that really want to win????

I'm not all that sure I like the 9point goal rule and I would hate to see the regular season adopt it, but kicking from out at that sort of range is brilliant! and makes "the flood" totally useless.
Kick more of em Bucks!

Bucks Goal Kicking is not as good as it use to be. Yes it was a great goal, but he was way better at pumping them through 50 metres more on a consistent basis a few years ago.
We have better goal kickers in our team now our goal kicking depth is the best it's been in years.
In saying that Buck's has been putting them through when it counts, it's seems to be the easy ones he misses.
