WHEN Brownlow medallists swap clubs at the height of their careers, it triggers an emotional reaction from everyone, especially supporters.
For Collingwood's big-name recruit on the rebound, Shane Woewodin -- he is just grateful for the chance to rejuvenate his career.
For the second half of 2002, he was sensitive to the view that Melbourne had lost faith in him and that he was not worth his pay packet.
Approaching tonight's Telstra Dome Wizard Cup match against Carlton, Woewodin cannot wait until 6pm when he dons the No. 2 and emerges on to the arena for the first steps that he hopes will see him regain the respect of everyone in football, including those at Melbourne.
"It's so exciting. I feel like a new recruit and my career is starting all over again," he said.
"People want to know how filthy and dirty I am and how I'm looking forward to having a really big year.
"What happened (at Melbourne) does give me some extra motivation. But I have to do the work and, at the end of the day, I could have stayed, but they were pushing me out.
"They didn't want me there. To leave was the best decision. I've gone back to my 2000 days and I'm being very strict again with what I am eating and drinking.
"My body has reacted really well and is in good shape."
Woewodin, 26, started training a month before the main group with Melbourne's year having ended earlier than Collingwood's.
He also feels stronger for the extra sessions under conditioning coach Dave Buttifant.
"You get here and you've got to work hard and get that respect back from your (new) teammates," he said.
"I've had a really good kick start for the preseason and a few extra miles under my belt."
He will immediately slot into coach Mick Malthouse's revolving midfield with scope to kick goals, as he did in his Brownlow year in 2000.
"Yeah, I kicked a few goals that year, but in the last couple of years I was quiet," he said.
"I want to be able to push through the lines and get more goals.
"And it's not just me. It's everyone in our midfield. We want to kick more goals as a team."

too much hype if you ask me.
Every second article this summer about Collingwood has been focused on Woey. He hasnt coped well in the past with pressure so I just hope he can survive the Collingwood army.

If what you say is the case, D9, then that's great! Less pressure on all the other players.
