Here's the link to the page where I got the link for the initial post, and it pretty much says what you have said, Tess.

Expected to be built for overseas markets in Canada from early 2009, the Camaro coupe (and its convertible sibling unveiled at Detroit in January) are now seen as strong contenders to sit alongside Saab, Hummer, Cadillac and other GM brands in Holden’s emerging premium dealerships.

There's more pics of the Camaro in the above article.

I prefer OUR monaro's! Its a camaro... made as a camaro... should be sold as a camaro... not a monaro! It looks too yankie to me. Plus i didn't think they were going to continue anything to do with monaro's... yet again...

(ps... that was my myspace background for the past 6 months)

leelee, the building of 'our' Monaro will cease after this current production run, and will mostly be for export to the US as the Pontiac GTO.

The VE SS Commodore will also be exported to the US as the Pontiac Grand Prix G8, so if we are to continue to see the Monaro on our roads, we will have to do with a US built vehicle, and GM (not GM/H) has decided the '09 Camaro is the best option.

Afterall, the original Monaro was based on a US design, so it's turned full circle. Even the original Commodore was of German design. And before the Ford fans jump in, the original Falcon was of a US design, so no need to start any 'We're more Austalian than you!' arguments.

What I can't get my head around is there ARE such things as "holden fans" and "ford fans", despite the fact that my best friend belongs to the latter group.

It just mystifies me.
