PETER Brock could be destined for immortalisation on the big screen in a portrayal by Australian actor Peter O'Brien.
King of the Mountain producer Bill Leimbach said veteran O'Brien was the only person up to playing the racing legend.
"When he came to meet with us, we thought he was perfect," he said. "For one thing, he looks just like him, but he's also cool like him. I mean, Peter was like Steve McQueen, so cool, and so is Peter O'Brien."
Brock had agreed to play himself in the film but died in a WA rally last year.
Director Sam Genocchio said O'Brien would have a headstart because they became friends during a British TV series several years ago.
"They came up with this idea to have a celebrity rally where British celebrities were paired up with Australian racing legends and drove around the desert in Western Australia for two weeks.

This ovie was in the pipelines long before Brocky died!
David, if you win Bathurst 10 times (he won the 24hr race!) you would probably have a movie about you too... you would also have many chicks after you and be unable to cope with the demands of millions of diehard fans tattooing your name on themselves!

I see anyone who drives a car for anything other than transport as a climate problem, almost to the point of a criminal.
Anyone want to calculate how much CO2 a single race would produce? 2 hours X 20 drivers or whatever is is, at extraordinary revs, that's probably a safe 6 months worth of pollution from a single person in normal conditions.
No hero worship for me.

And how much CO2 is produced by running your computer David?
And your lights, and your stove and you Playstation.
How do you get to work? Electric train? Where does the electricity come from and how much CO2 is produced for your benefit?
I suppose we better all stay home and not go to the footy because of all the CO2 produced by the electric train and the cars people drive to get to the G. |

As for me, I won't comment on the environmental merits of car-racing - I find it so horribly boring that I've got a predisposition to dislike it anyway

Mate I do accept there almost every aspect of modern life has an environmental footprint. HOWEVER I think to compare using a computer for studying or entertainment a few hours a day with driving a car around in circles burning huge amounts of petrol is drawing a long bow indeed.
I create plenty of CO2, and i do try to minimise it at every step possible, as i'm sure you do and almost every intelligent being on this planet, but surely you can admit that driving a car around in circles for 2 hours is pretty wasteful.

Sorry, completely wrong.
I'm one of the minority that enjoys making CO2. Yes, I think it's a problem, but it's not my problem.
As for car racing, love it, love cars, love the huge CO2 creation that will occur at Albert Park in a couple of weeks.
Vroom, vroom...
P.S. My last water bill went up by 33%. Am I a bad person? |
