Charge on Brock death theft

A 37-year-old woman has been charged with stealing a souvenir from Peter Brock's crashed car while collecting the racing legend's body for the coroner.

Brock, 61, died when his high-powered Daytona Coupe left the road and slammed side-on into a tree during the Targa West road rally near Perth on September 8 last year.

Police allege they have found a piece of fibreglass from the wreck, emblazoned with Brock's racing number 05, at the woman's home in Carlisle.

They have charged her with stealing a piece of the car while employed to take Brock's body to the mortuary on behalf of the coroner.

She has been summonsed to appear in the Midland Magistrate's Court on April 4.

Brock's record nine wins in Australian motor sport's best-known event, the Bathurst 1000, won him the moniker King Of The Mountain and status far beyond that of any of his contemporaries.
