Magpies pleased with hit-out
1:47:06 PM Fri 7 February, 2003
Collingwood’s quest to make the long march back to the last Saturday in September began in earnest on Friday as the squad took to Telstra Stadium at Homebush in Sydney, in an intra-club practice match.
With virtually the entire senior list on show, the Magpies went through a full-scale hit out ahead of the Wizard Home Loans Cup that begins in two weeks.
The Collingwood hierarchy were more than pleased with the hit out, with both senior players and newcomers shining at the former Olympic Stadium.
“It was a pretty good hit out,” Collingwood general manager of football operations Neil Balme declared.
“It was a significant work out and we ran pretty hard. The level was quite reasonable. We handled the ball well. The coaches were very pleased with the hit out.”
Former Melbourne midfielder Shane Woewodin stood out as did ex-West Coast Eagle Andrew Williams. Draft selections Luke Shackleton, David King and Bo Nixon also impressed Balme.
“The younger blokes like Shackleton and King did some good things, and Bo Nixon was good,” Balme said.
The Pies played the game under Wizard Home Loans Cup rules and only Anthony Rocca (achilles soreness) and Cameron Cloke (school commitments) did not play.

did anyone see the game first hand?
How did Josh Fraser go in the ruck?
Was he against Steve McKee...and if so, who won the contest?

Excellent stuff Craig, really appreciated.
Fair dinkum if Didak doesn't start first game on the ground, MM has no idea.
What's up with Pebbles? Was he obviously sore earlier in the week?

During the Wednesday training session we were told (by you McGuane's 77 Bounces) that the friday intra club match was a closed session.
On thursday night I checked in the Sydney Collingwood Supporters Club (SCSC) forum to see if that had changed. No message therefore I thought it would be closed.
Will SCSC always be so unorganised that they don't correct the misinformation that they spread?
It only takes a minute to post a message in the relevant forum on the BB, why was the mistake not corrected (seeing that the Friday will be closed was information spread by SCSC.)???

Appears Richo and Dids got into a bit of biffo during the intra club.
Details are sketchy, but from whot I have gleaned it seems Dids did his block over something Richo did and threw three or four quick ones that missed or had little effect before coping one back from Richo.
Anyone who actually saw it please give us a bit of detailed commentary and news of any repurcusions afterwards.
I'm all for intensity, but I'm not so sure about team mates belting each other.
We were on recon in a steaming Mekong delta, a momentary lapse of concentration allowed Charlie to get the drop on us. I spent the next three years in a POW camp, forced to subsist on a thin stew of four kinds of rice. I came close to madness trying to find it here in the States, but they just cant get the spices right... |
