Readers help save donkeys
Adrian Tame
December 10, 2006
GOLDEN-HEARTED Sunday Herald Sun readers have donated $40,000 and tonnes of hay to save 250 donkeys at a rescue shelter from death row.
Last month, we revealed Dr May Dodd's battle against soaring feed costs of $1000 a week to save the donkeys.
Dr Dodd, of Diamond Creek, received her first phone call with an offer of help at 8am on the Sunday of the story. In the following week she was flooded with more phone calls and 250 letters, most of them enclosing cheques or offers of feed.
The biggest surprise came when a stranger called at Dr Dodd's donkey shelter and left a cheque for $10,000.

I'd like to see this generosity extended to other species too.

I hear Kevin Rudd was the stranger who tipped in the 10 grand.
The donkeys are apparently being groomed for Labor's new front bench _________________ Formally frankiboy and FrankieGoesToCollingwood. |

Aren't there enough people in the world that need charity right now?
$40 000 for donkeys... wow.
Having said that, it's a while since I've donated anything to charity... still if I had that kind of money I hope I'd spend it better. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |
