Rogan Josh - A little bit of trivia.
Do you remember Athos's nick name?

So hard to decide. My earliest recollection is also of McKenna, what young kid didn't want to be like him? I remember "doing commentary" while I played kick-to-kick with my cousin as a youngster, I don't remember some guy called Hudson very well at all (how's that for one-eyed). BTW I'm talking about 7-8 years old here.

But of players after I was born, that I can remember, Daicos would have to be singled out. As others have said the amazing sensation you felt, as an entire football crowd, when he got his hands on the ball was always incredible. No-one should be able to kick goals like that, he was a freak. For Fantastic Skills and Sheer Enjoyment factor I would say he's my greatest. (Not as part of this topic, but I was always dissapointed at the way the Club let him go. He had at least one more year in him, and as if we were "building a side" at the time.

Go Pies!

Yep i agree the treatment of daicos at the end of his career was very shabby considering that year we had when we told him to retire..he deserved better.

Daicos is the standout with his freakish natural ability and the ability to lift the crowd whenever he got near the ball.

Others i use to love watching were Stan the Man, Lenny Thompson, Ronny Wearmouth, Ricky "the racehorse" Barham, Des "hard as nails" Tuddenham. Can't not mention the Richardson brothers, and what about "here comes Billy" Picken. Peter McKenna wasn't too bad either.

Daicos was one of a kind and brought people through the gates...looking back at some of his highlights...I still get shivers when I see some of his goals....ie COLL V WC Qualifying Final at Waverley....what a ripper....or the torp from 65 out against the blues....or the goal from the boundary against richmond at Vic park or the....sorry I could be here all day...

The current list will add much debate to this topic once there job has been done.....

To many to choose from:
McKenna was fantastic.
Daics was a ledge.
Stan the Man for taking out Jezza
The Incredible Hulk was great entertainment, watching the opposition bounceing of him.
The Shaw Bros were great.
Ronnie Weirmouth, not sure on the spelling of that.He played on for years after leaving the pies. Played at Southport.
Today, Bucks & RRRRRROOOOOOCCCCCCCCAAAAAAAA

the greatest of them all . THE BEAR. Ray Gabelich . NOT MANY REALISE HE WAS SELECTED AS ALL AUSTRALIAN . He played ruck ,c.h.b. and c.h.f.. Who was there the day he bounced the ball 15 times weaved around 10 melbourne players and then--------kicked a goal[64 g.f.]? I was .Maybe not 15 and 10 but it was fantastic . It was a better effort than mcguane against carlton as the bear was in a grand final and it was not his natural game .

Colin Tully
Barry Price
Trevor Steer
The list goes on.

It is difficult to compare players from different eras. Childhood hero's are lasting so my favorite players are Kevin Worthington and "Here Comes Billy".

The best Collingwwod players I've seen would be:
70's McKenna.
70's/80's Picken.
80's/90's Daicos.
90's/00's Buckley.

Many old times rate Bob Rose the best. Hard to argue with them. Buckley will go down as one of the best from our club if he captains a flag.

My memories only go back to the 70's as well.
One of my favourites was Ron Wearmouth.
I agree with all those who chose Daicos for his magic.
You can't go past Gavin Brown and Tony Shaw for heart and current players Bucks and Licca ditto.

If you bleed black and white you'll never walk alone.

Ive got a weird one that probably nobody will mention.
Tony Francis was my favourite player, and probably will be forever. I was about 6 or 7 when i met him at K-Mart in Greensborough and i remember since that day, ive loved the bloke.
I used to write letters to him all the time, each time giving him a different name to write back to so he would always reply.
Obviously he didnt take much notice of the address!

Nathan Buckley is the best Collingwood player i have ever seen. But scooter will always be my favourite.

Dan
Be proud, but not satisfied.
