Joffa it's pretty silly to suggest that the Liberal party is 'evil'. Like any political party, they simply want to retain power, and to do this they want to appeal to a certain target area of the population. (dealing in stereotypes) Labor tries to appeal to workers, Liberals try to appeal to business people, Greens try to appeal to students. Of course, they all have to look after everyone to some extent, otherwise they'd never get voted in.

Statistics show that poverty isn't what is getting worse in Australia - but inequality is.
Poverty estimates based on the Henderson line are generally discredited by most serious organizations, and it's argued that by some (more reliable) means of calculation, relative poverty is pretty much the same now as it was 20 years ago. The government does look after these people (ie, with welfare), the question is just whether they are looking after them enough. What you're saying though sounds sort of like sensationalist proclamations... you say 'we don't give a rats for those affected with mental health' for example, and yet, needless to say, there are policies designed to benefit those suffering from a mental illness.

You don't have to if you don't want to. Turn up on polling day and submit an invalid ballot Razz

Spend a week with me mate and i'll show ya poverty in this country that will shock you and i'll also show ya where the homeless gather for food and shelter if there lucky to get shelter. And believe me every night in melbourne we have thousands upon thousands of people who are homeless destitute and very poor

What policies are there mate to look after and protect those suffering from mental illness..again mate spend a week with me and i'll show ya people suffering from severe mental health who are unable to get treatment and or have no one to supervise and monitor medications.

Dont talk shit mate because its offensive and it kind of demeans a huge problem we have in this country..poverty is alive and thriving pig headed attitudes such as yours will see it stay that way.

Our welfare system is a joke and utter farce !

Let me know when your ready mate and we'll organise a night preferably a cold night in which you can help me personally distribute blankets to those who sleep in parks and derelict buildings Smile

It sounds like a good idea, and I think that's great that you're doing so much for people who need it.
I was just thinking today, however, why our welfare system is so good. In theory, at least, it allows the unemployed to receive a pension but at the same time encourages them/helps them to find work. Of course when it comes to drug addicts and the like, I guess you can sort of see where the money goes, and yes it's very sad. Perhaps there does need to be more money put into preventing drug use.

Indeed, I think that needs to be the focus. Rather than raising the amount of welfare handed out, the government needs to look at the causes of homelessness and thus work on it from a preventative level.

I wasn't talking shit, by the way, merely quoting statistics.
