Oh, their policy on treating animals humanely is also very radical. |
hmm, wonder where they're going to get the money for all that? The current government already puts a lot of money into, for example, overseas aid, and I doubt that their methods of 'promoting equality' would be any good. The fact is, I could create a party that promises world peace, complete equality and no global warming by 2009. While such aspirations are noble, they are unrealistic ideals and impossible to attain, by one government at least. Meanwhile, 'real life' policies would go down the drain, but hey, at least the animals would have a nature park!
That's the problem with communism... it sounded great in theory, in practice it was disastrous.

If you want to claim that you're openminded you're going to have to do a lot better than spout liberal party propaganda and right-wing media analyses of issues. |
Yeah, I did read their booklet (2004 election). Why does something that contradicts your view have to be 'liberal party propaganda' etc? Is it impossible that people on the other side of politics think for themselves? I guess so

We could get that money and more by ceasing all expenditure on the army. Plus that stupid recent taxcut could be reversed. Also things like the detention centres can't be cheap to run, and all that money spent subisidizing the non-cheapish private (ie. very very very wealthy) schools would probably be significant as well. Oh, and all those stupid recent expansions in DSD, ONA, ASIO and all those other ridiculous organisations could be wound back; terrorism can't be beaten via simple policing and civil oppression.
It's all about priorities mate, people and the future of our planet, or short-term electioneering.
Also sorry to contradict your view of howard's government, but it puts very little emphasis on overseas aid. Everything they do give is tied up in contingency packages where the recipients have to spend the money on building a road from factory X to the airport, or other such investments that benefit australia rather than the people actually recieving the money.
Oh and how did i let this slip "Real life issues"...
Sure David, climate change, improving the quality of the absolutely abysmal public schools and hospitals, and gender, sexual and racial equality are such airy fairy issues. Eliminating the role of unions in the workplace, increasing social fragmentation and islamophobia by making completely ignorant and inflammatory remarks, LOCKING UP REFUGEES FOR YEARS and invading a foreign country are clearly examples of "real life issues" being dealt with by a logical and rational party.
I know you have a heart, how can you tolerate these things, especially the refugee tragedy. They are imprisoned for the crime of being desperate... _________________ I would be ashamed to admit that I had risen from the ranks. When I rise it will be with the ranks... - Eugene Debs |

I don't think we see eye to eye on... much at all
anyway, this has inadvertedly turned into an old "Who's better, Liberal or Labor" argument. The point I was trying to make in my earlier posts was that difference of opinion is crucial to an intelligent and democratic society. I don't know if you agree with that, but if one side of politics as such was eradicated, my view is that this difference of opinion would be no longer existent.
It is good, therefore, that we are having this debate, even if I am poor at arguing my case - it shows that divergent views are apparent in Australian society _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

A better arguement would be is there any difference? _________________ WELLLINGHAM ROVES IT....AND KICKS THE GOAL!!!!
