I know in families such as ours, it is sometimes unwise to discuss things such as Politics, Religion and the like and particularly on this BB as the truth is this BB was set up to talk about our club.

So if you would like to do some really fasinating reading on why certain things are happening in the world today, you might like to read John Pilger's new book "The new rulers of the world". It was written in February this year and it is truly amazing.
It discusses Indonesia, Iraq, Afganistan, the UN, the USA and much more. Pilger's explanation may assist many of us to understand the current world tragedies.

Mike, I hope this post is OK.

CQ, are you sure? Surely not in a bookstore!

I'd get it off the net....download it off a program like kazaa or something.....errr, but only if you have the original and are afraid the original may be damaged...i'd get it for backup purposes only - of course.

Sorry people, too much red cordial at lunch today.

Whatever you read/view/discuss, please keep an OPEN mind.
There is a lot of hate running throught the world at the moment. A lot of people/organisations/goverments are trying to blame certain individuals/groups/religions.
To label every person who follows a certain way of life as "anti-our-way-of-life" is wrong.
Don't be sucked in by these people. Remember, you are an individual. Do not become a sheep and follow a "prophets" way of thinking just because it's convenient this week.
You are the most important person in the world as you can make a difference. Please, think carefully before subscribing to theories about our world and it's future.

I don't often agree with Magpie Greg on politics, but he is correct in one respect regarding John Pilger. Read it with a grain of salt. Wouldn't agree Pilger has no credibility, and I like his stuff, but just like the mainstream media, he has his barrow to push. A few in the mainstream media 'dismiss' him as a left wing loony, but in my eyes that only makes him more credible! His recent TV doco on Palestine (shown here a month or so ago) was pretty good, and thought provoking, which I guess is the whole point. Where's the truth?..somewhere between two sides of the story mostly.

Joel, you'd find his books in any public library I'd reckon, and a decent second hand bookstore would have a copy of some of his stuff. I'd try to read Heroes, A Secret Country and Distant Voices for a start. I usually read one of his books on the way home, just seems to be a habit with me! Anyway, enjoy.

Joel, sorry I haven't been on line for a couple of days.

Poeple who put Pilger down generally don't like what he says because it challenges their own beliefs. In EVERY book he has written he backs up what he says with hard evidence such as UN meetings minutes, direct quotes, speeches from Parliaments, one on one interviews, Newspaper articles etc. He is an investigative journalist. He himself says "When people call you a dupe you know you are close to the truth".

Anyway you can get the book at just about any book store. It cost about $30. The ISBN number is 1-85984-393-X.

When people tell you NOT to read something you have to wonder what they are scared of.

Oi! Don't be smartarses. I was asking if there was anywhere in particular where it can be bought, i.e. a specific bookshop or is it widely available.

BTW, thankyou Murray.

Murray I don't think you can be that harsh, I think Pilger has his own agend, just like everyone else. Just cause he backs it up with facts doesn't mean it is the only possible opinion, telling only one side of the story can be as bad as not giving any evidence at all.

However having said that I would recommend you read some, it is thought provoking at the least.

Facts?
Anyone knows that facts can be misrepresented. Take a paragraph or 2, make sure you don't quote anything that does not support you, and bingo! Fact!
Remember also that $30, say $10 to the author, is big bucks and people often are contraversial just to make a dollar.

OK, I think this thread is going places that the inital post did not intend (or was there a different agenda ). Get the book, don't get the book...but don't argue about it on here.
