Lions look towards third AFL title

He was "a little bit shady" after three days of celebrations but vice-captain Justin Leppitsch knew how to rev up thousands of Lions fans during a victory parade in Brisbane.

"Let's go and get the third one next year," Leppitsch told the crowd celebrating the Lions' second successive AFL premiership.

"We had our usual `mad Monday' yesterday.

"As usual, we had a victory parade today and as usual we had a Brownlow medallist this year.

"It's a great, exciting time for us and the whole state."

The numbers were down slightly on last year's emphatic celebrations but thousands still lined the Queen Street Mall for the parade.

The Lions were weary after their long weekend and even prone to exaggeration according to livewire Jason Akermanis, who kicked the match-sealing goal in the grand final victory over Collingwood at the MCG last Saturday.

"I took on eight blokes to kick that goal," Akermanis told the fans in King George Square.

"And I tore my quad (muscle) after I took on the eight blokes."

Akermanis praised the fans for attending the parade, which showcased the increased support for AFL in Queensland.

"This has capped it off," Akermanis said.

"It shows us how far our game has come and it's a proud feeling."

The Lions headed to a brewery after the victory parade to mark the release of a beer commemorating their second flag.

The partying will continue for the players through to Saturday night's best-and-fairest dinner but veteran Alastair Lynch had another date to remember.

Tuesday marked Lynch's wedding anniversary.

"Last year it was on a Monday and I missed it by about half-an-hour because we were still celebrating," he said.

"I was in some trouble then, but it will be better today."

I missed the point of this one......
What did Akaermanis say that was so bad?

"The two hardest things in life are getting started and not quitting.
We will never quit"

THATS what's wrong with him. When Licca got 40 possesions in a game all he said was "they must've made a mistake, i don't think i got that many".

I suppose it shows which team REALLY likes to brag.

Yeah but his team has won the flag where as licca couldnt get carried away.... he wasnt saying to the media just to the fans let the baby have his pie.......

If any of their so called "fans" watched the game they would know Lynch sheppard off Wakelin and he basically had a free snap... its right there on tape.
Akaermanis has said worse things than this

"The two hardest things in life are getting started and not quitting.
We will never quit"

This guy loves a stir doesn't he? So he took on 22 blokes to kick that goal so what. Let's be honest they won we didn't, they have 6 months of bragging rights. What would we be doing had we won? Bring on 2003!

Ar, let him go. He's just being funny now. The "I took on 8 players" rave is strictly for Brisbane consumption only. Don't buy into it. It's not worth it.

I think he's trying to be the Paul Hogan of football.
