Arise Sir Paul

Among the many emotions I've trasversed since that final siren blew on Saturday, I reckon the footage of Licka got me the most.

We acknowledged him last year when he won the Copeland but how many of us really did.

We acknowledged him after his matchwinning 40 possessions against the Power that paved the way for our GF appearance but how many of us really did.

We acknowledged he shoulda been all australian but how many of us really did.

What I realised on Saturday was how much hard work this guys has done and how much he has really improved as a footballer. Like many of us I used to knock his kicking which has improved 100% in the last 2 seasons.

On Saturday arvo I saw a guy who has come back from a knee reconstruction and has worked his absolute arse off for this club.

I saw a guy who was bleeding cos he didn't play as well as he woulda liked to, even though I thought he was one of our best.

This guy should be put up as the epitome of what we are all about. If we had 22 guys with hearts as big as Paul Licuria we would win the flag every year.

Licka has arrived, so arise Sir Paul. I hope you get your 2nd Copeland and take your rightful place next to Bucks as one of Collingwood's superstars and on your way to becoming one of our all time greats.

Yep, got me the most too, Damien. Real men do cry. The poignant sight of MM standing with arm around a distraught Lica in the middle of the 'G' in front of 91,000 people will remain with me for ever.
