Post subject: What did this little girl do to deserve this | |

Poor little Sophie Delezio is now on life support after being struck by a car on a pedestrian crossing outside her school.
I do feel sorry for the elderly man who hit her, but it highlights the fact that drivers over the age of 70 MUST be tested on a yearly basis.

Doctors expect Sophie to pull through

Sophie Delezio, the five-year-old Sydney girl who suffered horrific injuries when a vehicle ploughed into her daycare centre in 2003, has been seriously injured again in another car accident, but doctors are optimistic about her chances of recovery.
Meanwhile, a Sydney man has been charged with dangerous driving over Friday's incident.
Doctors said that Sophie's injuries were not as serious as first thought but she would remain on life support for several weeks as she recovered from her latest ordeal.
"We are optimistic that the injuries she sustained are unlikely to be life-threatening but they are very substantial injuries," Sydney Children's Hospital acting executive director Dr Michael Brydon told reporters.
"Sophie, thank God, isn't as badly injured as we first thought.
"She still is very unwell, she's got some serious injuries, particularly to her chest and legs. However, the head injury that we thought was very serious doesn't appear to be as serious as we first thought."
Ron Delezio said his daughter was hit by a car on a pedestrian crossing on Frenchs Forest Road in Seaforth, in Sydney's north, at about 4pm (AEST) on Friday.
Sophie, who had been in a push-chair at the time, was thrown 18 metres by the impact, an ambulance officer on the scene said.
Dr Brydon said Sophie had "quite a few broken ribs", a badly bruised lung and one of her legs had a very serious fracture.
She remains unconscious and heavily sedated at the Randwick hospital.
NSW Police issued a statement saying an 80-year-old Frenchs Forest man, the driver of the sedan that struck Sophie's stroller, had been charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.
The man has also been charged with negligent driving causing grievous bodily harm and failing to give way at a pedestrian crossing.
He was served a court attendance notice at Manly Hospital where he was being treated for shock, police said.
He is due to appear at Manly Local Court to face the charges on June 15.
Sophie lost both feet and some fingers and suffered third-degree burns to 85 per cent of her body when she was trapped under a car that crashed into the Roundhouse Childcare Centre at Fairlight, on Sydney's north shore, on December 15, 2003.
She underwent months of operations and painful rehabilitation, but captured people's hearts with the cheerful way she dealt with her injuries. _________________ Jacqui © Proud Pies 2003 and beyond |

I'm reasonably religious (Roman Catholic), but I don't buy into the whole "God's Plan" rubbish. I was taught that God gave us free will. What we do to each other is the failing of Man, not the failing of God. _________________ "There's an old saying in Tennessee, I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee, that says, fool me once, shame on... shame on you. I don't watch South Park and so I fail to see the correlation here between this poor child's misfortune and a parady comic show. I'm sure others would feel the same. _________________ Jacqui © Proud Pies 2003 and beyond |

If you've never seen it, then I'm not surprised that you failed to see the correlation.
I'm saying that they tackled this very issue a couple of years ago. I'm not making light of the situation one bit, nor did they. The point of satire is to highlight a serious issue and discuss it openly using humour. _________________ "There's an old saying in Tennessee, I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee, that says, fool me once, shame on... shame on you. Craig I'm not religious, I couldn't give a toss about getting into religious arguments.
So I don't have to answer your question, because I don't have a god. End of story.
I was just making an observation of what you are trying to do. Ie- stir the pot. _________________ I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody. |
