Axl Rose sued
From correspondents in Los Angeles
27aug05

GUNS N' Roses frontman Axl Rose has been sued by former band mates Slash and Duff for allegedly keeping them out of the hard rock band's lucrative royalties, according to court papers.

Guitarist Slash and bassist Duff accuse Rose, whose real name is William Bailey, of directing the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers to send all publishing royalties to Rose's publishing company instead of splitting them three ways, court papers show.
Slash, whose real name is Saul Hudson, and Michael McKagan, or Duff, allege that they did not receive 92,000 dollars due them for one quarter of 2005, according to the documents obtained Friday by AFP.

The suit, filed in federal court here this month, said Rose is "suffering an apparent attack of arrogance and ego" and "He is no longer willing to acknowledge the contributions of his former partners and band mates in having created some of rock's greatest hits."

But Rose's attorney, Howard Weitzman, said the singer had only asked the society for his share of royalties and blamed the overpayment on a clerical error by the society, according to the Los Angeles Times. He said Rose returned the extra money to the society.

The band, which formed in 1985 and broke up in 1995, wrote such hits as "Welcome to the Jungle," "Sweet Child of Mine" and "November Rain," making it one of the most popular rock bands of the 1980s and early 1990s.

While Slash and Duff have revived their rock careers in the band Velvet Revolver, Rose has failed to deliver on his 10-year-old promise to release a new Guns N' Roses album titled "Chinese Democracy." Rose is the only original member still with the band.
