I think, for one season only, the AFL should introduce relegation this season for the team that finishes last (whoever that may be!)....It would solve the problem of forcing Footscray fold too. Any thoughts????

I disagree with that rule. Sorry Dave . Where would they get revenue from? TV revenue, gate receipts etc. Even sponsorships. And what sort of player would want to play in a lower grade rather than at the top level with the best facilities?

LD, are you serious? Although a good idea, where would the team get relegated to, and importantly, where does the replacement team come from? However, I have had an idea on my mind for some time. Divide the comp into two divisions of eight teams each.
You would then have each team play every other team in it's division twice, and play each team in the other division once, resulting in a 22 week season.
The finals would be the top four of each division, 1 v 4, 2 v 3, the losers of each finished. The two winning teams of each division play off, resulting in division champs, then play off in the grand final for outright bragging rights.
To avoid yearly mismatches, the bottom four of each division could possibly change divisions every year.

I'm sure London Dave only meant it as a one-off rule for this year only.
The team finishing bottom (whoever the Navy Blue bastards happen to be ) is relegated to eternal damnation to rot in the fires of hell where the worm never dieth and there is weeping and gnashing of teeth.
No need to replace them. Just have a bye. When a team is drawn to have the bye their players can all have a week off from the pressure of footy and just have a "Bye Bye Carlton" Party.

Well if that is the case...as in this year only then yes. I totally support that idea.

I could see the beauty of that LD.
But could we survive as the same club if we lost our arch nemesis. I am willing to give it a shot though.
Rule 1. Barrack for Collingwood
Rule 2. See rule 1.
Rule 3. There is no rule 3.
