Read the paper today and I read about Magpie supporters signing up for memberships in droves. It then referred to Magpies supporters on the Internet saying 'We Own Colonial' and 'We have arrived'. Refer to two of the current topics with those headings. Can't remember what page it was on, but it's at about 15 I think.

Have a read of this........

Magpie fans rush to join up
By TERRY BROWN
21may02

AFTER almost raising Colonial's roof on Saturday, the Magpies were trying to keep a lid on things yesterday. But while their cheer squad and president declared business as usual, fans' actions spoke louder

Finals fever struck four months early as fans rushed for
memberships and a chance at finals tickets.
Shops and the club reported surging sales of Collingwood gear.

Bookmakers pencilled the Pies in as a near finals' certainty. And the Magpie army prepared to mass in Adelaide for Friday's clash with Port Adelaide.

More than 2000 Pies fans are expected there.

Saturday's Lion-killing effort added to already growing hopes around Victoria Park.

Pies president Eddie McGuire said last night it was "not hard at all" keeping a lid on.

"It was business as usual as soon as we finished singing the song on Saturday," McGuire said.

But other supporters were still singing. On the Internet, Pies fans warbled "We have arrived" and "We own Colonial", and a dozen fans braved the rain to watch training at Victoria Park yesterday.

Sadly for them, training was at Kew, but it barely dampened the spirits.

"Life couldn't be better at the moment with Carlton on the bottom and the Pies winning," said Max, who had the Sherrin Stand to himself.

In the city, Myer's sports department noticed a surge in Collingwood sales.

"Collingwood's always pretty busy, but it's improved maybe 10-15 per cent," sales assistant Kevin Theuma said.

Victoria Park phones ran hot with lapsed and first-time members joining up.

Membership manager Anthony Trainor's five operators were flat out.

And Pies merchandise manager Sherryn Osborne said sales at Colonial, and at the Anzac Day game against Essendon, were the best in five years.

Cheer squad president Kerri Baptist said there was a feeling of excitement.

Fans were "not being smug", Ms Baptist said.

"We're trying to keep a lid on it, but it's very hard.

"The euphoria around the place is just fantastic."

Ms Baptist said supporters were clamouring to join the cheer squad.

"Every night of the week, the phone rings with people saying, 'Can I join?' " she said.

Black and White Travel consultant Kerri Walsh said the club had sold out of tickets for Friday's match.

Bookmakers have cut the Pies' premiership odds from 50-1 a month ago to 9-1.

Centrebet's Gerard Daffey said one punter with $30,000 on Collingwood to make the finals already looked a winner.

Well I'm not suprised that the H/S pulls it's headlines from elswhere, after all their journos are not the most original in the businness are they.
I also had a little bit of plagerism ocurr on saturday. I was listening to Tim Lane in the aftermatch saturday afternoon. To my suprise Tim said "tonights ACID TEST for the magpies".
Well funny that, I had posted on all Pies sites 2 days before that very line to advertise the Virtual Outer scoreboard and chat. Does Tim check us out? Dunno, just a bit wierd that he used that phrase.

Gotta smile at the "research".
Seems this site is first choice for the media as well. Maybe we should set 'em up somehow. Start a ridiculous rumour or something. Maybe an outragous quote for Friday nights emphatic win. "I just sold my dog at cash converters to raise money to back the pies for the flag. When I collect I'll buy the dog back and take it on a holiday to Hobart to make up for the inconveniance." No, that's just stupid isn't it!

Anyway, clearly this is a place where people find the real Collingwood supporters however you look at it. Eddie and now his media collegues are "stalking".

Magpie24, a big thanx for posting the article. How did you get it on Nick's BB. Did you type it, scan it or was it from another web page? The article was not on the Official or Pies From The Outer.
