Collingwood has announced its leadership group for 2002, with inspirational captain Nathan Buckley retaining the captaincy he has held since 1999.

Young veterans Anthony Rocca (24years old), Jarrod Molloy (25) and Tarkyn Lockyer (22) have been named as vice captains. Rocca, Molloy and Lockyer have been chosen because of the outstanding example and inspirational leadership they provide to their teammates.

Scott Burns stood down as vice captain after an indifferent season in 2001 due to injury. Stepping back from the official role of vice captain will enable Burns to concentrate completely on his own preparation and get back to his best.

“It is great to see these younger players given the honour and responsibility, and I believe this places the club in a great position for the future”. Burns said.

Mark Richardson has also stepped aside from his role as deputy vice captain, but both he and Burns have unconditionally endorsed the new appointments and will continue to provide much experience and leadership to Collingwood’s very young group.
