I know what COLLINGWOOD need and that is a key full back man. I think we can cover chb through clement richo and even cloke but its full back is where we fall down. Can any body tell me who is best suited to the full back postion ?
Our full back line is the weakest link.
at best
fb: licuria wakelin ??

Who is available in the draft to fill out the bald spots....what draft numbers have the PIES got in the next one.It seems that filling holes is becoming harder and harder. What about up and coming players from our lower ranks,or dosen't that occur in AFL any longer.....surely W'town should have some classy prospects.
What do we all think

Here is my 2002 line-up:

ff: l.Davis, Tarrant, Molloy
hf: n.Davis, Rocca, Lockyer
c : Rintoul, OBree, B.Johnson
hb: Licca, Richo, Lonie
fb: Kinnear, Presti, Burns

followers: Fraser, Buckley, Didak

interchange from: Cloak, Shaw, McKee, Freeborn, Clement, Holland, Adkins, Wakelin, Wasley, Scotland, Betheral, Lane, etc etc..........

Reasoning:
Presti is underated and still our best bet at fb. Wakelin is, in my humble opinion, not much chop and performed above his ability this year.

You've taken Nick Davis too far from the goal mouth. Bad, Bad!!! No - don't do that. that is where he is at his most dangerous. We've got other wingman - Ben Johnson will step up and take this spot. He's got something special this kid.

Don't take tarrent away from FF - he's really really good there - and Rocca is a good chf - he's underated. he will get more consistent this year and will have more stamina - he needs the confidence of knowing the coaching staff think he can do it at chf - so we're not going to put him at ff.

Clement isn't tall enough to be a key position player, but richo is still good, while he's fit. If he isn't good enough, expect Kinnear to step in here, and Cloke to get some time as the third tall while they groom him for chb in 2003.

The little guys are much for muchness - Buckley on the ball or in the middle, Obree, Lockyer etc, but I would hae Didak on the ball because he's a bit in the tony francis mold - just a few indications he knows where the ball will land before it's even in the air. Nice type to player ot ahve at rover. silky smooth skills aswell - nice to have delivering in to tarrant and co.

all in all it's a very exciting year ahead for the pies

Pies for Premiers 2002, 3, 4, 5, 6....

Well here's my forecast:

Key Forwards:
Tarrant Rocca Fraser Molloy
No-one new here: our best group.
Grunt, class and goals on the board.

Small Forwards:
N Davis Holland L Davis Didak
plus Lane, maybe Buckley and Lockyer when resting
Core group excellent prospects all, some superb backups
no change again.

Midfield:
Buckley O'Bree Lockyer Licuria
plus Clement Steinfort Rintoul Shaw Scotland
maybe Burns Didak N & L Davis
Core group solid, supporting cast not settled.

Tall backs:
Richardson Prestigiacomo Wakelin
plus Kinnear Cloke McKee?
The weakest link-no stars, some good skills,
but no strong-marking dominant backman.

Small backs:
Burns Lonie Freeborn Johnson
plus Lockyer (he's everywhere) Steinfort Clement
Core group has a good mix of toughness skill and speed
but some injury questions.

Rucks:
Mckee
plus Rocca Fraser
maybe Kinnear Guy Richards
McKee is a decent tryer when fit, and may improve
Rocca and Fraser are good for bursts but can't ruck all day
This area is a patchwork, but performs adequately.

If we're drafting for 2003, then I'd say tall and small backmen, then a ruck.

David Parkin used to say you had to turn over 20% of your list to stay competitive-maybe he was talking about Carlton which usually has an old list-I reckon we're on the improve with very few changes.

Lonnie to wing to become a superstar.
L.Davis to start the games and move onto the ball to use his pace and quick disposal.
N.Davis to used as a utility accross HB,C,HF lines to utilise his skills when he can can be left without an opponent to worry about.
Rocca to the goal square to limit his running.
Tarrant to HFF to use his run.
Burns as a polyfilla backman and centre clearance specialist.
That is all I would do with last years lineup.

Hopefully we can add Adkins, Cloak and Didak as the year progresses and hopefully at least one draft choice will be playing seniors by year end.

Does anyone think Josh should play CHB if we struggle there?
I think he could be effective and it would help his rapid development.

this is my guess on how the MAGPIES will line up next year taking the draft and recriuted players out of the calculations such as adrian fletcer and scott cummings etc...
ff: l.davis rocca molly
cf: n.davis tarrant fraser
c: rintoul o'bree lockyer
cb: lonie richo clement
fb: licuria presti burns
r: (back up) buckley didak
int: kinnear holland cloke adkins stienfort

(back up ruck) could be kinnear or cloke.

This line up is a well balanced one with just the right mix of youth and experiance. Ya gotta love our chf line davis tarrant fraser.
