Based on last night the holding the ball rule looks dead.
But I would scrap the bounce, we looked dominant in the centre ruck whilst they threw the ball up, it turned once they bounced in the 2nd half.

No, just don't cannon into a players head knocking them out cold.

You can bump or deliberately elbow a player in the head as long as they don’t have a history of concussion. If they do, you can’t go within 10m of them, unless they play for Collingwood as Murphy is fair game.

May as well become a non contact sport. It's getting ridiculous now.

I guess it will depends on how many post career injury suits will land on the desks of AFL insurer/s in next few years?

Will it get to the point where the insurers say "yeah no thanks, we won't be covering AFL/NRL any longer; all the best".

Or perhaps suggest/demand players from both codes wear Brayshaw-type helmets to mitigate any future impact causing head/brain trauma?

Or do we just send them all out in netball skirts? Confused

The rule changes, per AFL Media are:

*From 2024, if a player leaves the ground in an attempt to smother, it will be deemed careless conduct at a minimum, “unless the player has taken all reasonable steps to avoid that high contact and/or minimise the force of that high contact (for example, by adopting a body position that minimises the force of the high contact)”.
*While the AFL doesn’t want to end the run-down tackle, the rough conduct guidelines have also been tweaked to better protect those in a vulnerable position.
*The sub rule will continue, but clubs will now name an extended bench of five players (an increase from four) and three emergency players. Each team's sub will then be confirmed 60 mins prior to the match.
*The action of a player ruled to have committed a strike when intentionally shoving or fending an opponent will now be graded as Intentional rather than Careless (watch Charlie Ballard incident below, cited by the AFL as an example)
*Straight-arm blocks will be permitted in a ruck contest, provided the player contests the ball.
*If an offence is graded as Severe impact by the Match Review Officer but only the minimum penalty is sought, the MRO can prescribe a sanction and the player submit an early guilty plea without the case having to be referred directly to the Tribunal.
*The in-finals ranking system has been codified to determine the 'home' club for Grand Finals in both the AFL and AFLW. The winners of the Qualifying Finals will be ranked first and second, the losers of the Qualifying Finals ranked third and fourth (the higher of the two clubs on the premiership ladder will be third) and the winners of the Elimination Finals ranked fifth and sixth (the higher of the two clubs on the premiership ladder will be fifth).
*Whistling from the interchange bench is prohibited.

According to Laura Kane that’s something she does not want to see happening.
This apparently would apply to the staff that occupy the interchange area & the penalty for it could be a penalty free against your team—That’s a very controversial rule as what’s to prevent a supporter from opposition being in the crowd and close whistling.
Borders on insanity

Any thoughts????

Is the AFL capable of going through a off-season without changing the rules?
It's never-ending tinkering.
