First match. 2 February 2:30 pm.
Australia v West Indies
MCG.
-------------------------
"Allrounder Will Sutherland has been added to Australia's squad in place of the injured Nathan Ellis for the forthcoming ODI series against West Indies.
Sutherland is the third replacement player named in recent days to a group that will play three ODIs from February 2, with games in Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra.
Boom South Australia youngster Jake Fraser-McGurk and Queensland quick Xavier Bartlett are also set for their maiden international call-ups after stepping in for Glenn Maxwell (managed) and Jhye Richardson (side strain)."

Attended the game on a beautiful Melbourne day with the MCG looking in awesome condition.’ Poor crowd compared to those who used to attend the WI vs AUS games in their heydays. Aussies won a totally forgettable and boring game. The WI are playing a very young and inexperienced team and the Aussies had many top players not playing. But it was still a very ordinary effort from the once mighty WI who at times looked disinterested. Sad really. _________________ I term the current Collingwood attack based strategy “Unceasing Waves” like on a stormy and windy day with rough seas. A Perfect Storm ☔️ |

Back in the day, we used to watch the WIndies bowl Australia out for 230, then run down the target easily. And we'd go home pleased because we got to see Greenidge or Haynes smash it all over the park opening and IVAR, then the greatest batsman since 1948, bat. Last night, you got to see Australia bowl the WIndies out for about 230, then run down the target easily. You might have gone home pleased because you'd seen Inglis smash it all over the park opening and then the greatest batsmen since 1948 make a chanceless 79* from 79 deliveries - in an innings that showed supreme touch, skill and control, including three of the best late cut boundaries ever played in international cricket.
You also had the privilege of watching SPD BradSmith and Green knock out an unbroken partnership of 149 - the highest ODI partnership all-time for Australia against the West Indies at Melbourne and the highest ODI third-wicket partnership all-time for Australia against the West Indies at any ground.
Go figure. |

^ It "felt like a bit of a non-event" because you were watching the World Champions win their 10th ODI in a row - and doing so at a canter against a team that flogged them relentlessly for about 20 years, 20-40 years ago.
That's what greatness looks like. Embrace it - because it's fleeting - and all-time greats like SPD BradSmith only come along once a century. |

Speaking of generational talents, Fraser-McGurk has been selected to make his debut in the 2nd ODI in Sydney today.
Aaaaand, 5 balls later, out for 10.
Opened the batting, faced the first ball which he tried to hoik of 6 but missed.
2nd ball short of a length outside off stump, just sort of fended at it and missed.
3rd ball, danced down the pitch to Joseph and smacked a 4 to long on
4th ball, pitched up on the stumps, smack into the 2nd tier of the grandstand at square leg for 6.
5th ball short of a length outside off, just sort of fended at it, caught behind.
I'd love to be a fly on the wall back in the dressing room to hear what sort of feedback he got. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |
