Spencer Johnson and Mitch Perry are making the National selectors and cricket fans sit up and take notice.
Johnson is a Redbacks' left armer with similar attributes to his namesake, Mitch. He's quick, aggressive and a wicket taker. Having impressed in the BBL, he's playing just his second first class match for Sth. Oz, as I write, with 9 more opportunities. He took 7/47 in the current Shield match and has the only wicket to fall in Q'land's second innings.
In just his second fc match, he has 14 wickets @ 12.14 runs per wicket.
Mitch Perry Has stepped in admirably, to Scott Boland's role, opening the attack for Victoria. He has 7/41 from 28 overs in the current Shield match against NSW. For the season: 25 wickets @ 22/92 from 7 matches.
Lance Morris also comes under notice. He has 27 wickets @ 18.40 from 5 games and is considered to be the fastest bowler in SS. _________________ Donny.

Another young gun doing well is Victoria's Will Sutherland.
31 wickets @ 20.16 are good numbers. He's no slouch with the willow, as well as being an outstanding fielder. _________________ Donny.

Perry and Sutherland were the two kids who destroyed FTB Smith's defective technique when Vic played NSW a few seasons ago. (They shared his two wickets.)
FTB couldn't score off Perry, who was... what... 18 or 19 back then? FTB was batting at number 3, which is too high for his defective technique to handle.
And it wasn't a greentop. IIRC Hazlewood played for NSW in that game and ended with very average bowling figures.
Sutherland has captained too. Dunno how he's gone with that... |

It was February 2021. 1st innings: FTB Smith made 7 from 35 balls, before being caught behind off Perry. (FTB batted at #3.)
Perry was born in April 2000, so he was 20 at the time. So not a teen. But FC debut for Vic 30 Oct 2020, so it was very early in his FC career...
2nd innings: FTB Smith caught behind off Sutherland for 13. (FTB batted at #4 'cos Lyon was nightwatchman.)
Vic's 1st innings: Starc and Hazlewood combined took 0/115 (30). But Lyon took 6/21 (16). |

Mitch Perry and Spencer Johnson have been included in the Oz A squad to tour NZ next month.
"Perry has been named on the back of impressive Shield form for Victoria with 19 wickets from his past three matches, while Johnson's selection continues a meteoric rise for the left-armer who had spent three years on the sidelines through injury before earning a call-up for Brisbane Heat in BBL|12."

New short-form captain (for now) Marsh has talked up Spencer Johnson. Says he was "blown away" when he faced Johnson in domestic cricket.
Marsh:
“I remember commentating a game and he was bowling 150 [kilometres per hour] and swinging them both ways. He’s an incredible talent.
“I faced him in the one-day final at the WACA and was blown away by his skill and his pace. Think he’s going to feel right at home in international cricket.” |
