I hope they locked it up for the carlscum games and replaced them with cardboard boxes 😎 _________________ I term the current Collingwood attack based strategy “Unceasing Waves” like on a stormy and windy day with rough seas. A Perfect Storm ☔️ |

Well, to be fair, we did line the boxes with kitty litter...

I'd completely forgotten about those.
I remember when they were redoing the bar in the SC, maybe around '98, and they were serving cans from those old plastic rubbish bins.
I think they underestimated the amount of beer consumed in there, we were literally wading through empty cans at calf deep by half-time.
The old Thorn TV they used to raffle was an interesting day when a North Melbourne supporter won it and wouldn't donate it back. _________________ "The Club's not Jock, Ted and Gerry" (& Eddie)

In 1976 after a lose to Tigers where an on field incident got me annoyed
A Collingwood player( can’t recall who) was lining up for a goal at the railway end and standing the mark was Neil Balme —he picked up some mud indicating he was about to throw it at the Pie player
Having a beer in members bar Balme and Rob McGhie came in for a drink
I questioned his reasoning for the act of the mud and he and Bobby McGhie left
Not nice and silly on my part _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |

Can't have been too much beer consumed. I would have been more worried if you were wading through empty cans at half deep by calf-time. |

No, fair question; case dismissed.
There have been far more confrontational things asked to players over the years, than that. _________________ M I L L A N E 4 2 forever |

Mixed emotions but my most memorable time at vic park was in 1994.
Married that year.
Watched us come so bloody. close against wet toast and go down by 2 points in Perth. Had tickets booked to fly to Melbourne regardless.
Went to Vic Park to visit.
Being from WA it was just an experience to be there.
Even when no football was being played.
Walked the ground and soaked it all up.
Went into the club and thought Id grab a beer.
Was served by non other than Gavin Crosisca who was working the bar.
Could not believe it.
He was brilliant.
Had a yarn.
Sipped a beer with the great man at our great club.

Presume you are still married? If so I’m guessing it’s to a Collingwood supporter, and not a fan of the Sandgroper clubs.
Hauntingly my family moved from Sri Lanka to Perth when I was 10 years old and attended Mt. Lawley HS but I was into Cricket and never attended the local Aussie rules games. A year later my parents moved to Victoria and the rest is history!

Must have been awesome experience. I have met him a few times at the old Collingwood jumper presentation nights at Crown casino and he was always pleasant to talk to. _________________ I term the current Collingwood attack based strategy “Unceasing Waves” like on a stormy and windy day with rough seas. 1991 collingwood Richmond game... the Tigers grannies had their deck chairs set up on the boundary in the outer. They had more balls than keno, which we told them. One hit me over the head with her umbrella. Loved it. _________________ Buon Giorno |

The old folks would remember the Collingwood ladies, on the side of the opposition players race at vic park, who used to hit them over the heads with their brollys 😝 😄 _________________ I term the current Collingwood attack based strategy “Unceasing Waves” like on a stormy and windy day with rough seas. I remember Vic Park from the late 60s. The football sometimes disappearing over the fence.
I started barracking for Collingwood after seeing them get smashed by Essendon on TV. My brother was quite brutal to the Maggies, so I naturally sided with the underdog...and that's how it started.
To Vic Park, I remember the long drive across Melbourne before the freeways existed. My brother who was much taller than me punching me on the arm each time Essendon kicked a goal. That day it was a draw.
I also remember Peter McKenna kicking a point and returning to CHF. He turned around and the full back had just kicked the ball precisely to where he was. McKenna marked and proceded to kick the goal! Thank you I thought. I also remember Len Thomson being so dominant and wondering why the opposition kicked the ball to anywhere he was, as he marked absolutely everything. Also remember Jerker Jenkins and Tuddy, and the Richardson brothers.
Another day, someone from Essendon put fire to the Collingwood banner. That drew a lot of outrage. I'm sure some of you may remember that. _________________ Jamie Elliott...you beauty

I had seasons tickets there with a mate for 5 years in the 80s. We sat in the Rush Stand. Got the Clifton Hill bus from Elwood. After a game at Vic Park, people would get on the bus at the G, and at the Junction Oval. The peanut guy was a mainstay. And I use to love when we were behind and started coming, man the atmosphere around the wing was electric. Daics was something to behold. We played Melbourne in round 3 or 4 of 1985 and we were 4 or 5 goals down at three quarter time, and came storming back, man it was amazing the energy in the place. There were the old grannies infront of us with their thermos and umbrellas - one of them told me off for bagging Nevil Shaw one day. She said Son he’s on of ours. I’ve never bagged a Collingwood player publicly since. I had the Duddle coat with Phillips, Raines, Cloke and Daicos’ names on. I was there the day Salmon broke his leg - he was a great footballer. Oh and watching the 2’s before the main game was brilliant - I’m sad they stopped that tradition, the game is the poorer for it, and equally sad that Fatui Attata didn’t make it. _________________ Dispatches from a foreign land |
