Post subject: TRADES FROM CHANNEL 7Reply with quote

· ANOTHER season down, a
· glorious winner, a loser with
· plenty to rue - and a pivotal
· month ahead for those who sat
· back and watched the
· magnificent Brisbane Lions on
· Saturday afternoon.

· The pre-draft trade period is now
· on in earnest. So much will be
· discussed, so many names will be
· mentioned. Of the hundreds of
· rumoured trade deals you will
· hear mentioned, a slim
· percentage will actually be
· considered, with even fewer
· consummated. Then the draft
· will be held and this, according to many good judges, is as
· deep a talent pool as there has been for years.

· As is always the case, the grand final winner becomes
· something of a yardstick. Essendon has already flagged its
· intention of finding some greater leg speed through the
· middle of the ground. They looked at the plethora of
· talent and power at Leigh Matthews' disposal and rightfully
· wished for the same at Windy Hill.

· So what are the jungle's rumbling drums telling you about
· your club's intentions so far? Anything? The Analyst
· deviates slightly from his weekly brief in his final column of
· the year to publish some of the suggestions that have
· already crossed his desk. Some make interesting reading,
· others are just plain nonsense. You can be the judge
· about which is which . . .

· [] Heath Black is allegedly heading to St Kilda because he
· wants to play under Grant Thomas.

· [] Heath Black is allegedly going to Collingwood for Rupert
· Betheras and Tyson Lane.

· [] Corey McKernan is allegedly being swapped for Peter
· Everitt.

· [] Mark Porter is going to Essendon and Nathan Eagleton is
· heading to Carlton, allegedly.

· [] Mark Porter doesn't end there though. In another
· rumour, he is off to Windy Hill, while Clint Bizzell and Adam
· Houlihan move to Carlton.

· [] Greg Stafford is apparently in the middle of the Barry
· Hall to Sydney push.

· [] In a three-way go, Ryan Fitzgerald leaves Sydney and
· returns to Adelaide, Peter Vardy heads off to Punt Road
· and David Bourke becomes a Swan.

· ] Tyson Stenglein is apparently being swapped for Daniel
· Schell, Adam Houlihan is being traded for Nick Daffy, Trent
· Croad and Luke Power are swapping clubs, while Geelong
· is interested in Scott Cummings (clearly they've forgotten
· about Brett Spinks), St Kilda has Jude Bolton in its sights,
· and Fremantle has made up their mind and will take
· highly-rated local youngster Graham Polak with their No1
· pick in the National Draft.

· Now, take it all with a grain of salt. As we know in
· football, very little is as it seems and at this time of the
· year falsehoods spread quicker than a flu virus through a
· Bomber's hamstring.

· One thing is true though. We will all find a way of spinning
· whatever happens at our club into the gold at the end of
· the rainbow. And that - putting a good spin on things -
· should be the way we finish this column for 2001. For
· surely this has been the year of the spin - some good,
· some bad, some as ugly as we have ever heard.

· But for the next few weeks every cloud has a silver lining
· and we are all equal. Now there's a spin you just can't
· believe.

What?????? Why would anyone with half a brain want to play under Grant Thomas??? Then again, Black has played under Drum and Ben Allen......

You might think playing under Thomas is not something to aim for but look at Black's past coaches. The only way is up as they say.

The Pies didn't rate much of a mention there, which is good.
