Breaking news on the footy show tonight will be that the charges against Milne and Montagna have been dropped and they can walk away free.

Its par for the course with rape allegations. Unless they can provide some additional evidence apart from the girl's stories it would be impossible to proceed with the charge.

Of course, it's open slather on raping women.

We must be in the middle east, womens rights don't matter.

No wonder most of the women don't come forward, who can blame them.

It doesn't appear to have broken anywhere else, so what are your sources? .. no response, but I did find this source.....

Saints cleared of rape: TV
May 6, 2004

ST KILDA AFL players Stephen Milne and Leigh Montagna will be cleared of rape allegations, according to a television report.

Channel Nine tonight reported the duo will not be charged, following a police investigation.

St Kilda officials would not comment, with the club saying it was seeking confirmation from police.

A police spokesman said: "We have not been officially advised by the Director of Public Prosecutions on the outcome of this matter, nor have we advised the victim."

Thanks MPF.

I know Milne's brother, and for their sake I'm glad, however, as a female, i feel for the woman involved in this and wonder why these AFL/NRL players all get off without any repurcussions, the women involved, have repurcussions on a daily basis.

So much for Womens' Week in Football

Innocent until proven guilty, unfortunatly it's how the law works, but I think it's the only fair system.
It's definatly a good thing that it didn't go to court whilst the evidence was not sustained, because this way if something comes up it can be re-opened, I think it's the fair way to go FOR EVERYONE INVOLVED

They're either innocent or they're above the law ...

... and I guess we'll never know.

Pity.

I was looking forward to that smart-arse little prick, Milne, spending the prime of his sporting life playing for the jail footy team.

Quite apart from the guilt or innocence in this particular case ... it really annoys me how footballers generally get away with all sorts of stuff because they're footballers.

They really are above the law.

They are not acquitted; there simply is not enough evidence for a conviction as far as the DPP goes.

It's a green light for players to abuse women as there is no way they will be found guilty.

As far as women go, it's a shame many will have to live with being violated against their will and no wonder many of these victims suicide.

They'll probably never live this down, if they had been found innocent they could of moved on. Now no one know's if this raped actually happened, or it was staged.

yeh i reckon that too, they get away with so many things!

even tho they have the spotlight on them and if they do something wrong everyone seems to know about it, but it seems we all find out and nothing really happens to them after that!

Would the ladies have come forward if they weren't footballers, knowingly drawing a big media spectacle?

Would the ladies have even been with the boys if they weren't footballers?

We'll never know and because we'll never know the circumstances we probably shouldn't try to judge one way or the other. I could paint a picture that makes the boys look disgraceful, and I could also paint a picture that totally disgraces the women......which one is true (if either of them)?

The only facts we have to go on are that Milne and Montagna won't be charged. Lack or evidence could mean they are totally innocent so let's cut the boys some slack.

Nobody knows who the ladies were.
If anything these ladies gave confidence to other women affected by sexual misconduct by footballers to come forward. It caused us as football followers to look at a culture which may sink into further disrepute if this behaviour of a minority of players continues.
