I strongly doubt he’ll leave the Lions while they have a sniff of a flag.
And if he did, it would be for a club with a better medium-term future than us. _________________ Four legged animals good, two legged animals better |

How are you a key forward of note when you’ve played 143 games for 118 goals.
This is what has cost us in the past, band aid knee jerk solutions to a gap in the list. We will be very competitive in two years time. Would rather go to the draft with an early pick and develop a kid at the same rate as the rest of our list. Or put away the pennies until such time a decent forward with an average of at least two goals a game become available ( or young key defender )
At least we’re now kicking a score, so you could argue we need a quality key defender as much as a key forward. They are at least cheaper and easier to come by. |

Kicked 1 goal last night & is generally very average. May even lose his spot in their team once Hipwood gets back.
Checkers is far better.

McStay is 27 years old this year, could be a little out of our age window but if hes available i would get him. He has been swung around between defence and attack hence his shortage of goals over his career,
I like the look of him and sticks his marks. Seems to have a long reach or long arms....unlike Grundy, sorry to say but Grundy has to start getting some competitive marks...or if hes looked at as a running midfielder type, he needs to get 25 + possessions per game.
It worries me we have a ruckman that cant mark. Between him and Cox its laughable...so cmon Grundy lets go mate!! _________________ Carpe diem quam minimum credula postero. |

Not sure what his contract status is, but I'd be chasing Nick Larkey from the Roos. 23 years old and getting better and better. True full forward. Wouldn't be on that much at Roos. Offer him something he would seriously consider. |

Same issues since Cloke left.
There are no KPFs available.
We had our chance at Lynch. We had our chance at Wright. We missed both. Actually we stuffed it up big time. Imagine two big key position players who were diehard supporters growing up not coming to the club.
Instead we traded for Beams. And Lynch signed as a free agent with Richmond. The Tigers get one back on us for signing Treloar and then go on to win flags with Lynch. Then we look at Wright. An easy trade. Yes, all it took was a fourth round pick for Essendon to snag him. The issue here was our salary cap, which the Beams contract may also have been a part of. This also meant we didnt/couldn't put up a fight for J. Cameron.
Picture if you will...
Quote: | CHF: Jordan De Goey, Peter Wright, Brody Mihocek
FF: Beau McCreery, Tom Lynch, Jamie Elliott |
With Henry and Ginnivan able to come in, Kreuger available to play fwd or back, and Ash Johnson coming through the VFL. Cox and Cameron would not be required. No Beams debacle. No Treloar debacle. A better outcome for Stephenson.
This was the named forward line on Thursday:
Quote: | CHF: Will Hoskin-Elliott, Callum L. Brown, Mason Cox
FF: Darcy Cameron, Nathan Kreuger, Jordan De Goey |
We've drafted McMahon, but never hear if he's coming on or not. And Will Kelly looked good early, but is not having a great impact so far in the 2022 VFL season. So do we have someone emerging in the VFL? Maybe Ash Johnson.
So where do we look now? McStay is the only one available that will not cost us a trade. So he becomes the obvious target. As far as trading, Logan McDonald is off the table as is everyone else thats not nearing retirement. Where do we look? There is no one. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

^ McMahon is developing quietly - at the moment, he's been playing as a running defender in the VFL (after playing forward last year). |

For the next two years we need to go to the draft, we can't get the available free agency top end talent with our salary cap, and or sacrificing early draft picks.
Build a team that has come through the good and the bad together, that know the system and believe in one another.
It takes time, but we will get there, and in two or three years, if we are ready to open the window, the talent will want to come to us. _________________ In the end, it's not going to matter how many breaths you took, but how many moments took your breath away |

McStay away from him. He I'd not a main man and is s 2nd or even 3rd string tall. You overpay and still be in the same position we are in now.
Need to hit the draft hard double up in first round taking 2 best kpp talents at pick ranges. Big draft for kpp.
Trade our future first into this year's draft and look to secure another high range pick from the plethora of fs and academy players needing points with our multiple 3rds. _________________ Up the Mighty Mags 2016. |

Easily the best tall forward in the upcoming draft is a man child called Harry Lemmey from S A. Very impressive talent and depending on various scenarios, will likely fall between 3 and 7 on the night. There’s still a lot to play out and if you’re one who values a high draft pick over a win, then start barracking for a lowly finish. It’s not like we only have one hole to fill, so I have no doubt we will add more quality to the list, regardless of Harry or not.
We also have three third round picks and the Lions will be desperate for big points to secure Will Ashcroft ( son of Marcus ) so it wouldn’t take to much to snag another pick around 20 odd. The club will likely have something up their sleeve but the draft still remains the one known certainty at the end of the season. |
