I have a feeling it's used for either women's hockey or netball

I just did a quick trade mark search and it confirmed that the nickname Kookaburra's is used by Australian Hockey Inc.

This nickname is also used for a Canberra Rugby Union team.

I've always thought the next expansion team out of Perth in any sport should be called the Perth Prozacs.

The wombats are the local Karratha Tennis Club pennant champions. They started slowly this year without their captain for the 1st round and lost. He then lifted them to 2nd spot by the time finals came and they took out the title.

Wombats are the champions!

The bunyips finished 3rd - not much talent but they cooked a mean bbq!!

There you go LD, that's the wrap for you.

I also think that WA teams are prone to flower names....like maybe the Perth Pansies
Peppi Grove Petals
Subi Sunflowers
Dalkeith Daisies
Cottesloe Carnations

Sorry for the colloquialisms.....LeonMcS and other WA magpies may understand.

The Aus men's hockey team are the Kookaburra's.

As regards sporting teams, don't know of any called the Bunyips.

Speaking from the wombat perspective do know of a couple of clubs known or formerly known as the Wombats. The RL side from Mudgee in central NSW was known as the Wombats. The Coogee club in the Eastern Subs/Sth Sydney comp were known as the Wombats (used to have big rep for partying) before some sort of merger when they became the Dolphins.

I may as well add our local cricket team's mascots.

Cawongla - The Raiders (quite a few of them followed Canberra in the ARL) Colours - Black & White.

Roseberry Creek - The Redbacks or The Berries. Colours - Red & Black.

Triple Creek - This team represented 3 valleys or districts, Green Pigeon, Horseshoe Creek and Collin's Creek and had a Kookaburra on their shirts but were The Green Pigeons. Colours - Red, Green & Purple.

And the most famous of them all - my team. Toonumbar - we are the Toonumbarbarians.

Our mascot is a hulking barbarian about to lop off an opponent's head with his broadsword, only the sword has been replaced by a cricket bat. We were formerly The Greens as we had quite a few green activists and it was our team colour.

Nearby Nimbin sent a team away to the Queensland bush cricket carnival each year. They were The Emus.

I think there might have been a sporting team in Tasmania with that name, I remember seeing the name before (apart from the Hockey team that is) Not sure the sport, or the club's name.
