ICC backs Chris Broad

In what may be construed as an act of pique at his decision to report Murali's doosra, the Sri Lankan Cricket Board lodged a complaint with the ICC over alleged misconduct by match referee Chris Broad during the recent Australia- Sri Lanka series.

They have accused Broad of drinking with the Australian team during this series. As a result of his report on Murali, Broad was replaced as referee for the current Zimbabwe-Sri Lanka series by Sth African Mike Proctor.

The ICC has replied to Sri Lanka's complaint by confirming their support for Chris Broad and stating that the Sri Lankan complaint and allegations were completely unsubstantiated.

Seemingly, an inelegant and crude piece of cricket politics by the Sri Lankans which has backfired in their faces. Mind you, they are not the only players in the game of smear and innuendo.
