Jan Berry, who rode the wave of the surf music trend in the 1960's as half of Jan & Dean, has died, aged 62.
Berry had been in poor health since a 1977 car crash and suffered a seizure at his home in Los Angeles on friday.
Jan & Dean-the Dean was Berrys old schoolmate Dean Torrence-had seven top 10 hits, including the 1963 No.1 Surf City,co-written by Beach Boy Brian Wilson.
The Beach Boys and Jan & Dean often performed on each other's tracks, without the knowledge of their rival record labels.
Other Jan & Dean hits included The Little Old Lady From Pasadena in 1964.
Berry, who had a genius-level IQ,was the groups creative brain..
