Good Luck James Aish in Freo. No big loss, we need less small bodied half-backs, what we really need is for Mason Cox to step up and become a marking forward and for JDG to play an injury free season and for Stevo to stop gambling and for Adams to treat his injuries with respect and for Grundy to learn how to punch the ball 40m forward and for the whole list to develop a bit of that unsociable attitude. These are the things we need and you'll find none of them at the trade table.

He’s 23. How old did you think he’d be?

As good a deal we could have expected in the circumstances.

The future second alongside our own should cover our academy player should he prove worthy of a 1st round bid and allow us to use that 1st round in next years trade period.

We could potentially look to trade it for say Gold Coasts pick 15 this year if someone we really liked was still available.

Spot on. Right now we have manoeuvred ourselves into a position to pick up both Maguiness and another first rounder in the 2020 draft. It’s time to plan ahead and prepare for life without Pendles, Sidey and Beams

Which Maguiness is this?

Finn McGuinness will be picked up by Hawthorn under father-son, won't he?

I thought for a second that it was a real deal.

It is the Philippines' boxer.

Damn spellchecker Reef McInness Chargers. Big mid probably tracking somewhere between picks 10 and 20 right now.

Hawks Maguiness is a real bolter after the Combine. Could be around pick 10ish on the night.

My 2 cents worth:

If my calculations are correct, Aish played 53% of games over 4 seasons with us (50 out of a possible 94 games).

Most of his injuries were contact (concussion, PCL, shoulders) and he spent a lot of time in rehab. He wasn't a durable player, unfortunately.

No question we have had injury woes for the better part of a decade now, so although it hurts to lose a guy that clearly bleeds black and white, I am trying to think pragmatically.

Wouldn't surprise me if the Club simply is putting less priority on re-signing injury-prone players such as Aishy.

Yet they re-sign Reid?

Think Reid is fortunate because of his size and our lack of KPP depth. 1-year deal for insurance is understandable, imo.

Also, if we culled all our injury prone players in one hit, we might not be able to field a team Laughing

Now if you look at any given photo of Aish in a Collingwood jumper on game day, he is covered in tape. A few of these on AFL website last cuppla days.
Tape holding his shoulders together, and his knee bandaged. So you'd have to think his body might not see out his Freo contract, let alone a 10 year AFL career.
Thought he was flying until he hurt his knee against Bitchmond late in 2018 H&A season, and never quite got back that same form.
But, I will say this, with ball in hand, he never panicked, and his disposal standard was confident and quite acceptable, but perhaps not super quick.
And he never, ever, once flinched in a contest; he possesses a large set.

All the best Aishy, do your family name proud in Freo, hope you find your position, thanks for the last four seasons; very sorry to see you go bloke.

At the end of the day as boring as it may seem, if we manage to keep the list we have now, salary cap and all, its a big win for us.

Im glad we kept Scharenberg bc he could very well have a great year. Dont know of many other players that just need a bit of good luck for once.

Cameron could be a steal but it could take a few years of development still.

Overall not a bad trade period taking into account we could have lost more players of note.

The icing will be if we pick up a quality player for pick 35.

Aishy at the Pies was a Nearly player.

He was nearly a midfielder, nearly a winger, nearly a back.

He was great skills, touch and awareness. But never quite stamped himself as a certainty through injury or form. He was always close.

Roses bloom after a prune.
