Re the upcoming draft.
Collingwood has first claim on Reef McInnes https://www.afl.com.au/news/2019-08-12/recruiters-split-on-quality-of-2020-draft-big-calls-loom
We currently hold picks 35, 56, 69, a combined total of 765 points.
If anyone bids on Reef early, Collingwood can match that bid using a collection of picks to match the points attached to the early bid (Collingwood gets a 20% discount on the early bid points).
So seeing that we only have 765 points, taking into account our 20% discount, then we can match a bid at 956 points, which is pick #19.
So what happens if another club makes an early bid prior to pick #19 ??
Would we have to live trade with other clubs for draft picks to get more points to use for the matching bid ??
Can we go into deficit and use points from 2021 draft ??
And if yes, at what part of the 2021 draft list do we lose those points, would our future 1st rounder be affected and possibly dropped much lower, or our position later in the draft ?? _________________ Manassa is on the 50m, fakes the handball. What it also potentially means is that we would likely be reluctant to trade our future first rounder to buy into this years first round. |

Correct, much like it wasn't that big a deal to trade last year's first round in the Beams deal as we had enough points to get our Next Gen / Father son picks without it. |
