lol @ anyone saying offering 3 years to a 27 year old Collingwood player who has finally gotten on the park this year is the same as offering 3 years at ridiculous money to a 32 year old from another club, especially given Elliott played more than double the amount of games Wells did in the last 3 years...
There will never be a deal in history as bad as the Wells deal, unless the club is stupid enough to offer Grundy his 7 years, then that could end in disaster... |

Grundy for 7 years makes so much sense (even if he is lame in the last 2 years).
Wells for three years at 32 was high risk high reward, and so high risk, it was probably reckless. Mayne's contract was also high risk, but it turned out to be a great contract for us.
Elliot for three years is completely sound. at least 2 other teams were prepared to do it, he is good enough of a player to be the best forward on the ground at times, and he showed this year that there is a high probability he can play a meaningful number of games. There is a risk his body wont hold up, but if he was in perfect health, i daresay the contract would cost an extra 300k per year and might require a fourth year. ON the whole, i think three years is a no brainer after what he showed us this year. _________________ Ohhh, the Premiership's a cakewalk ....... |

That would be the best result, don't want to see him go but three years is too risky. |

7 years is a massive risk given he'll be 33 at the end of it and our AA, Copeland Trophy winning CHF retired at 30!
Wells was just plain crazy, there was little hope of any reward from it and its money that might have been handy the last 3 years to actually recruit someone who could have helped us win a premiership. How many players have been paid over $100,000 a game? Especially players in their 30's, he wouldn't have been able to sign the contract quick enough
Elliott is sound decision making, I'm shocked they are baulking at the 3rd year, he is only 27 and when he does get on the park, he plays most games. Every year he plays about 15+ games, except for the 2 years he played 0. Even then, if he only played 15 games in the next 3 years, he's still cost us less than Wells!!! Plus I'd rather reward a Collingwood player who has worked hard to get back on the field rather than provide a nice retirement bonus for an old bloke from another club! |

This re-signing is a significant vote of confidence in the club/coaches/player group.

One day , we'll have JDG, Cox, Elliott, Mihocek, Stevo and WHE all available to play. Here's hoping it's Rd 1 2020....and sustains a "No Change" status for the rest of the season.
Billy is a very important part of our future. He has a big heart and we all know where it belongs. Watch him hit a new level next year. _________________ I'm not the pheasant plucker I'm the pheasant plucker's son, and I'll be plucking pheasants til the pheasant plucker comes! Notice other clubs have shed players from their list but apart from retirees and some re signing,s no action at Holden Centre
Is there a specific date that clubs have to and submit 2020 players list[/b] _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |
