Yeah I'm stunned by this news. Maybe he's insurance, and our VFL side was pretty thin this year due to all the injuries. |

With the limited info I have on Grundy I heard that Grundy will also become a free agent at end of next year.
Could some one please clarify the Grundy situation ?
So if he is tradeable now and we can get 2 or 3 x high draft picks now instead of just 1x AFL compensation pick next year..... I know what I would be doing. |
Yes. Depending on our ladder position next year and IF he took a multi million dollar offer from a SA club in 2021, we would only receive a probable first round pick immediately after our official 1st round pick and post any compensatory picks that land prior to ours.
Also, Dwayne "Sponsors" Russell opined on 3AW tonight that he believed the HAWKS shall secure Elliott. Dwayne (whose contribution to nightly commentary is only spewing out sponsors/advertiser names every 90 seconds, hello:
* Toyota
* KIA
* McDonalds
* KFC
* DeBortoli etc....)
seemed to have that ROBBO "take it to the bank confidence". Hopefully he is as clueless as other "Callers whom fake that they're hard core journos" such as Carey, Maher, Huddo etc..." |
Thanx for the response inxs88. Lets keep Elliott if we can and I will get jeered for this but if indications are that Grundy is heading to SA then its better to cash in now, in my humble opinion, taking into consideration that his head may already be in SA, if not now but next year.
3 x first round draft picks or maybe 2 x first rounders and a player ( Dougal Howard ) would be ok. _________________ Carpe diem quam minimum credula postero. |

If Ben Reid has been re-signed, it would be the most staggeringly poor list management decision since Glenn McLean in 1984. _________________ I love the Pies, hate Carlscum |

Why do people think Grundy wants to go back to Adelaide especially if he is seeking a 7 year deal?

Reid would be on small coin. We'll have enough list changes as it is without him retiring. When he did play, he was ok. Problem was getting him on the park enough. So not a big undertaking to keep him. A back up for Cox and Checkers. We still need another back up or alternative. |

Agree with Melliot. We were short one key forward on the list this year and got found out badly when both Reid and Cox were injured.
If we had delisted Reid we would now be looking for two new key forwards not just one.
And AFL capable key forwards don't exactly grow on trees. _________________ Side by side. |

Ben Reid has played 151 of a possible 311 games since joining the Pies in the 2006 Draft so a 48% participation rate. His last 6 years:
* 2014: played 4 matches
* 2015: played 5 matches
* 2016: played 17 matches
* 2017: played 15 matches
* 2018: played 6 matches
* 2019: played 8 matches
(average over last 6 years - 9.5 games)
Thought signing him in May 2018 for 2019 was perplexingly premature but if Mark Stevens is accurate and he has been signed for 2020, it would be staggeringly "unconfident" list management. Surely there are prospects out their such as:
* Ben Sokol: WAFL
* Jake Riccardi: VFL (Werribee)
whom offer more upside than Ben. _________________ I love the Pies, hate Carlscum |

Matt Scharenberg for Mason Wood anybody? Release a player where we have strength and get in a player where we have gaps. Both have question marks on their bodies too. _________________ I love the Pies, hate Carlscum |

It's part of his cunning plan.

Rumours that Varcoe has signed for a year. between Reid, Greenwood and Varcoe that would have to chew up north of $1,000,000 for 2020. Also between the three, they'd be unlikely to play 20+ combined matches. _________________ I love the Pies, hate Carlscum |

I think your guessing. I reckon guys like these on a 1 year contract on their last legs and possibly not in the best 22 (i.e. are back up or role players) would be lucky to get $250k pa. and more likely<$200k pa. But I'm only guessing too. |
