In 2018, minimum base wage for 3rd-year plus was $105,000. (For a first-round draft pick, it was $95,000. For a rookie it was $75,000.)

K, I have been wondering about this in regards to Brody Mihocek, who for some unknown reason is still listed as a rookie.
You highlight the word minimum. The club would be somehow reimbursing Brody way above the rookie wage wouldn't they? |
No, PPie, if he's officially a rookie, I don't think so. I think he'd be right on that figure.
For draft picks and rookies, there's no negotiation. It's a set rate. That's the one advantage a draftee takes from going early: he gets a higher salary. (The number 1 draft pick gets a $10k bonus from the AFL.)
It's when they get to year 3+ (remember draft picks are on two-year deals), that they negotiate contracts, and then it'll be whatever their managers can get for them.

I am a massive Sier fan - hope he now goes down the Swanny (becomes a great player) path. I still conjure visions of that handball over his head in the GF. Young kid has think we are better with him in the midfield next year and the year after. We sell newspapers.

I am assuming you're right K ( ), so all I can say that Brody must certainly be one player who is out there for purely for his love of the game. Hope no other club poaches him with a decent offer, representative of his true value.

PPie, you cannot be a rookie indefinitely, so once time's up, he can negotiate. How much cap space our club has is the question. Very little, everyone assumes.
Certainly, K. Martin a few years ago decided it was not worth the bother being a rookie.

Think Sier's nickname will now be "Phil" rather than "Bear"

agree. Perfect consequence. Lying about playing basketball for 20 minutes is not a capital offence. His nickname will not be Phill Inn, it will be the Bear when he roars back into action. He will be an essential back up for Rupert Wills now, given that we can so clearly see that we require two inside mids to be a Premiership threat.

I'm afraid his nickname will be Panda for some time, until he is willing to show the necessary grunt and commitment we need. In the meantime, Wills is playing like a Grissly bear, and has jumped way ahead of Sier in terms of player ranking.
