Quite to the contrary I read a report that he only played 10-15 minutes so it actually sounds like he was making a number of smart decisions and managing his workload and injury risk accordingly. |
I tend to agree with this. Of course, if he hasn't been following his injury program properly, then the club have a right to be annoyed at him and sanction him accordingly. But there sure are a lot of po-faced puritans around. How did this country ever managed to get a reputation for laidback irreverence?

Laidback irreverence is well and good unless you're a well paid professional risking your capacity to do what you are well paid to do.

So who's the dog at the sports centre who ran to the media and got paid $100 for their vital intel on Sier? Can we name and shame them?

Rehabbing without compromise isn’t an option, it’s a standard required as an AFL footballer. If you don’t do it properly, you open yourself up to whatever the club sees fit.
One minute we bitch about players not being fairdinkum and in the next breath, we carry on about the club being over the top.
Having said that, I’m happy to wait for a club statement before I hang him.

I feel like this kind of whimsical rule-breaking is the essence of that concept. Any bluenose can support irreverence that still dots the i's and crosses the t's.
(Note that I'm not actually endorsing Sier's decision here. I just think it is kind of funny and that we don't need to treat it as a mortal sin.)

This guy actually deserves praise heaped on him for the way he has conducted himself to get fit over the past 2 pre seasons with his trips to Thailand for Muay-Thai training in his own time at his own expense.
As you can tell I am a fan of this bloke and I hope he gets a good run at it injury free in the future. Lets take the pressure off him and allow him the opportunity to relax outside the club.

Yep, agree. If he was shooting a few hoops at the Holden Centre, I doubt anyone would raise an eye brow. They are not prisoners of the football club.

^^This - Spot on. Shows a total disregard for the team rules, team respect and team ethos. Thought about only himself. Listed as Injured return date TBC so this is either totally inaccurate or Sier is guilty of DILLIGAF!
I just hope his papers haven't been stamped with Don't Come Monday!
Is it just me or have there been others that have done a lot of head shaking in disbelief this season?

Hmm. That sounds bad. But Bucks seemed like he was trying to hold back laughter throughout the beginning of the press conference, which suggests that at least he may see the lighter side of it. The playing group may be less impressed...

The Magpies merchandise department should come out with a Magpie Fan Shaking Head bobble doll.
For the laughing bit, they can just rip off the Tickle Me Elmo toy:

He, or any AFL grade player, doesn't have to be fit to play amateur basketball.
