Synchronised swimmer suspended

AN American synchronised swimmer had been suspended for two years for refusing to take part in a doping test, the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) said today.

Mary Hofer, 24, declined to take part in an out-of-competition test on January 20, USADA said.

Hofer accepted the suspension under the rules of the International Swimming Federation (FINA).

She then retired from synchronised swimming after being notified of the penalty, USADA said.

It was the fifth anti-doping action taken by USADA this year.
