Post subject: Wells to play for match payments | |
|
According to 7 news, Wells has decided/agreed to drop the guaranteed big money on the last year of his contract and play for match payments, backing himself to get fit and in the team. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

That's a big call if its how it appears on the surface. Devil may be in the details but if its the value it seems then he is showing real character. I like him in the team he is a special talent when he's fit. _________________ We shall set our course by the stars and not ships that pass in the night |

I have high hopes for Daniel Wells this year. This shows he means buisness.. _________________ On the eve of a Dynasty |

Me too!
A fully fit Wells is a massive boost to our game.
I'm guessing he'll be in the mix around time for an Anzac Day game, 12 games from him, prior to our finals assault would be perfect. _________________ Don't count the days, make the days count. |

3-4 games max, then done.
A fully fit and injury free Daniel Wells, I'd welcome it for this team. He's an outstanding player, but I just can't see where he's going to dip his mug into the fountain of youth.
Go the Pies! |

If his mindset is not financial but more team focused Nathan and co. may have a weapon —how they use him will be interesting for the side chemistry _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |

It takes the pressure off him from the outside.
Another fit and firing gun player can only help us.
Whether he can string games together to get fit and have his body hold up will be the question. Not if he is good enough. |

His mindset and preparedness of he and the club to map the games he plays
Say he plays a batch of games against the better sides then mothballed for games against the lesser sides —non AFL games does he sit out
This in itself does not help match fitness/readiness
It’s going to be an intricate balance—whole season impacts on some mids missing selection
Glad it ain’t us as decision makers _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |

Some interesting assessments from outside the club (Tim Watson) believe that Daniel,s decision fortifies the culture Nathan has been able to create
Even to the point that Beams and Wells playing thru the season increases our chance of a flag by 5% _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |

I was of the opinion when Wells signed it was 2 years and a games trigger to activate a 3rd year
Maybe he had a clause to do with other injuries not previously suffered or he was on the cusp of that trigger
He may be also getting some work aft football we are going to assist him with and in turn he's done the club a favour now
Any way you look at it its a good thing |

I had the feeling, since the boys came back, that something had changed with Wellsy.
Very hard NOT to get caught up in the enthusiasm around the club AtM, its infectious & guys are putting their hands up to get noticed with sheer hard work. I really don't think this is "doing us a favour". I think he can feel the buzz, & wants to be a part of it.
As things stand he's about as much a Collingwood player as Dermie or Teasdale, & don't wanna go out with a whimper. The guy's been a top player for a dozen years & he ain't dumb.
Look at where Mayne was a year or so ago. He caught the buzz. So did Dunny, Howe, & Levi, they ARE Collingwood players.
5 of his best games & 5 good ones would make him a very useful player for us. _________________ "If at first you dont succeed...

^ very even assessment - I think your right. With so much time off last year he has had a lot of time to plan it out. I'd bet with getting so close he will pullout all the stops and throw his lot in. Probably different if we were at the bottom of the ladder _________________ We shall set our course by the stars and not ships that pass in the night |
