Current Australian one day player Michael Bevan has lodged an official complaint with Inside Edge magazine over its recent list of the greatest Australian cricket innings in history.

Bevan, who some - including himself - have labelled the greatest ever one-day batsman, was not happy that his match winning innings against the West Indies at the SCG in 1995/6 was only ranked 31st on the list.

Bevan has forwarded video copies of the memorable dig to each member of the panel – including some 50 living legends of the game – asking that they "take a good look".

“It’s the same old, same old,” the wily New South Welshman told thebladder.com

“The Don gets best innings, third best innings and about nine other mentions. Steve Waugh farts and makes the list. Yet I single-handedly dig our nation out of a hole deeper than the Grand Canyon against the might of the Windies bowling, our survival in doubt until the last ball, and those bastards find 30 innings better than it.

“All I have to say is watch the tape a little more f***ing closely, Ian, Bill, Richie and the rest of the club.”

A brilliant piece of satire if only it didn't ring so true to character of this vain, self-centred male appendage.

Bevan lodged all complaints made in writing with a red pen.

I reckon Bevan has lived off that one innings his entire career, give the prick the flick! Put a frickin' Vic in! Hussy would smack better scores than "Bevan the average Protector" anyday!

Hussey M yes; Hussey D no. Congratulations to him on a good season certainly but from what I've seen of him, nothing suggests he's intl class. If his good form continues next season, then he certainly may have a case. Methinks the continuing development of Symonds and hopefully Katich in the side will see off Bevan.

"nothing suggests" ?? A bit harsh, mate ?

You obviously didn't see his double ton against NSW, wombat. The one that drew such praise from a certain S. Waugh.

He didn't get a double century from 350 balls in a dead match. He scored 212 from 218 balls.

This quite exceptional innings propelled Victoria to the second biggest run chase for victory in Oz domestic first class history.

They didn't get there in a thrilling finish, but achieved the 455 run target with many overs (8 I think) to spare.

He also did it from number 5 in the batting order, not opener or first drop.

He hit 5 sixes where only 8 had been hit in the other 1215 runs scored in the match.

That was just one innings.

He has another 3 centuries for the season and has outscored Martin Love and brother Mike - two batsmen you rate above him - against the same attacks.

Yes, a fine season and all credit to him but what I've SEEN of him does not suggest that he is an exceptional talent. Looks a good first-class batsman but nothing more. His brother has suggested for some time that he is capable of playing at a higher level.

If Hussey the minor does have continued good form next season, then obviously the selctors must consider him for higher honours. Not demeaning his acheivement but others have had a comparable Pura Cup seasons. I put v little credence on Waugh's comment, he is an OUTGOING captain and his input into natl selection is the same as yours and mine, diddly squat.
