So your point is that out of the 600+ players to captain an AFL/VFL team, 1% of them were inexperienced? _________________ https://forever.collingwoodfc.com.au/sav-sinks-the-dockers/

The answer, FGTC, is - of course - that he was made captain for marketing reasons. |

^ Yeah, sales of... I don't know what? have been booming ever since. It's AA, once the team is named nobody cares any more
I admit I was surprised when I read Franklin had been named captain but he's been AA 8 times so why not. It's Hurn's first AA. Last year Rance was named AA captain ahead of Selwood and he's only been co-vice captain at RFC for 2 years. Big deal _________________ https://forever.collingwoodfc.com.au/sav-sinks-the-dockers/ |

Since it's gone over your head, I'll try to explain. You said, "Same way you pick any captain - experience". Now, clearly that is not the case as you can see by some of the examples I've provided. Obviously, experience is one of the criteria, no arguments here, but your post suggests it's the only one. _________________ Formally frankiboy and FrankieGoesToCollingwood. |

It's just more Buddy-hype for the build up to next season. It's about selling the competition into Sydney, not about selling a few hats. |

^ The majority of people in Sydney don't even know there's an AA team, let alone who the captain is

There's no need to explain or be condescending, just provide evidence that supports your point, because 6 people out of 600 doesn't. Obviously in any sample size this large you're going to have a few exceptions, and I'm sure you can think of some more. But whether it's 6 or 60 it's doesn't change the fact that the vast majority of captains, let's say 90%, have experience
Not that I give a rat's bottom, but for the sake of the conversation who do you think should have been the AA captain instead? _________________ https://forever.collingwoodfc.com.au/sav-sinks-the-dockers/ |

Ok, so you've gone from "Same way you pick any captain - experience" to "the vast majority of captains, let's say 90%, have experience". Nice backflip but at least we're now on the same page
Now, I have more important things to worry about _________________ Formally frankiboy and FrankieGoesToCollingwood. |

Ok, so you've gone from condescending to insulting and arrogant
If you don't have anyone suitable with experience, then obviously you have to look at other criteria. Didn't realise I had to spell out the bleeding obvious, I'll try to remember to dumb it down in future _________________ https://forever.collingwoodfc.com.au/sav-sinks-the-dockers/ |

He was obviously the stand out choice for captain. A slow, soft, outside, over the hill player who lacks discipline. That’s the choice candidate, every time. |

And, once again, our two all-Australians were amongst the very best performers in the first week of the finals.
Sidey's 27 disposals takes him to 678 for the year. When he has his 14th disposal next week, he will move into 10th place in the "most disposals in a season for Collingwood since 1964" rankings.
Grundy has now had 894 hitouts, after his 47 yesterday (7th most hitouts by a Collingwood player in a game since 1964 - remarkably, Brodie now has 14 of that top 20 and 7 of the top 8 ). He has already become the only Collingwood ruckman in history to have 700 hitouts in a season and 800 hitouts in a season - and next week will become the only Collingwood ruckman to have 900 hitouts in a season. To put that in perspective, Darren Jolly is the only other Collingwood player to pass 600 (once, in 2012). Grundy's season also ranks him 16th since 1964 for Collingwood in total tackles in a season, 10th for total clearances and 6th for most contested possessions. A magnificent body of consistent hard work. |
