It's being reported that a business man is offering $2 million for a Tasmanian team to enter the NSL. The offer reportedly was offered to Soccer Tasmania to try and bring the NSL down to Tasmania. The team will probably be known as Tasmania United. Wether they will make it into the NSL is still unclear at this time.

Would it work? How much does it cost to run an NSL team? I would think that they probably wouldn't get enough people to games.

A big non-starter.

Nothern Tasmania really go into the NSL when it was here, Southern Tasmania has a decent soccer supporter base. They haven't said anything about where they will play the games if the team is put into the NSL.

The likely ground in Southern Tasmania would be KGV Soccer Oval (just behind KGV Oval Glenorchy) which is currently home to Hobart, and Glenorchy "Zebras" and is also the League HQ for the league down here in Tasmania. Where they would play it up North would be a mystery, because the NSL games were played at York Park. Which will be taken during the winter by the AFL Northern Tasmania, and both AFL clubs that are down here.

The problem with Tasmania having a soccer team, would be that not many people in Tassie would be soccer fans. When we have the NSL game down here, it being a one off, people came out to see if it would be worth seeing it again if they ever came back. If Soccer was to be played in the State, it would most probably take place in the Nothern part of Tasmania, unless they decide they want to do like the Devils have down, have one home game in Hobart, and one in Launceston.

It's going to cost a lot to keep them in the league, travelling is going to hurt, not only Tasmania, but the other teams in the NSL. Perth is going to have a tough time of it, coming all the way down here. I hope it works, I'd get along to some games if they played them here in the South.
