It's a dress code - makes the area vip and gives it a little extra something. Get over it or sit in the outer green eyes.

All you had to do to get in was to walk over to one of the merchandise stores and purchase a Collingwood polo top.
The dress rules are well publicised and have been successfully adopted for over 100 years. _________________ Now Retired - Every Day Is A Saturday |

Not of much interest to me to frequent the MCC. They're quite within their rights to have and uphold a dress standard, but I think it all seems a little stuffy. I'm not attracted to the conservatism of it all. I'm also not sure how it 'gives it a little something' either. Chinos anyone? Yawn.
I knocked back the opportunity to join the MCC a few times. I've probably watched >50 games of football from a corporate box too, but I prefer to sit, amongst the like-minded Collingwood members, in the Ponsford stand. _________________ One team, one dream - the Pies and this year's premiership |

Well then do so! It's not the MCC members who have a problem with the outer (I quite love it) but rather vice versa.
Who's being precious btw? _________________ No Pressure, No Diamonds

On that note ... As an MCC member the ponsford was my choice for seating for many a year for the same reasons..... Still I loved everything the members offered and still do _________________ No Pressure, No Diamonds

I'm on the MCC waiting list. Was nominated back in 2004, so not expected to receive a provisional membership until about 2021/2022. However, I've always liked sitting in the area when I've been there.
Although, I prefer the Ponny _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023 | |

Mate, when it comes to MCC membership, prime ministers have the same status as someone off the street. Also, in this age of "MeToo" women have exactly the same status as men and that's as progressive as you can get. |
Women have to wear polo shirts?

I think it'd be fun to dress as the Pies mascot. Must be nice and warm in there. |

The stupid part is not that you have to wear a collar. It is fair to have rules.
The stupid part is that in the middle of winter where you have a sweater and a coat on top of your shirt (both of which appear acceptable) AND the guy cant even tell if you have a collar on or not, it makes ABSOLUTELY no difference whether you have a collar or not.
The problem is the rules are fine. Its just that they are enforced by a bunch of morons who are enjoying their tiny little bit of power!
Its a shame for you David, because the members is a nice alternative experience to the outer. There is a lot of history in that stand and its kind of cool to see it. There are also several really really cool bars to drink beer in.
Most of the people are just like you. Regular guys. My buddy turns up to games looking like a complete slob (but he has a collar). Wearing a polo shirt isnt that big a deal. i've been turned away before and i raced to a store and bought a cheap collar from a local hotel gift shop. I looked stupid but i got in.
dont give up. Try again another time.
PS: Did i ever tell you that when i was a teenager, my brother and i donned record boy jackets and snuck into the Members to catch the 1990 Grand Final FREE OF CHARGE from the best viewing spot at the G!!!!!! No assigned seats you see! _________________ Ohhh, the Premiership's a cakewalk ....... |

The purple jumper should have been enough to be denied entry.

The dress code is easy to subvert. I am an MCC member and used to go with my coloured mohawk, button up my flanny to get in with a collar then head off to a gig at the Tote or Espy after the game. |

BTW I did get in this time. I wore a $10 black shirt from Cotton On that I picked up from Melbourne Central on the way under my Collingwood jumper (only because the guy I was going with reminded me at the last minute). Kind of absurd, but, you know, rules are rules. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |
