Post subject: Who are your best and worst footy commentators? | |
|
I was thinking nothing is worse than watching the Pies on tv and having to suffer biased commentators like Lingy and David King, especially when we are losing.
Who are your favourite and least-liked commentators? Here's my list...
Top 5 Afl commentators:
1. Gerard Healy - always interested in his views. Understated, not biased, and intelligent.
2. Dermott Brereton - honest, insightful, likes the Pies.
3. Malcolm Blight - no bs. Genuinely loves the game, and love his strong opinions.
4. Leigh Mathews - cuts to the chase, and pro Pies most times I've heard him in the commentary box.
5. Nick Reiwoldt - good addition as special comments..brings good insights.
I also don't mind Wayne Carey and Lloydy (although he was hopelessly conflicted with his views on the Essendon saga) - both are not afraid to stick their necks out.
Gerard Whately? ...neither here nor there actually. He likes to grandstand a bit too much for my liking.
Worst 5 AFL Commentators:
1. David King - If he says something, bet on the opposite happening.
2. Cameron Ling - annoying, biased against Pies, and very pro Geelong.
3. Carro - she complained that Vic Park got more government maintenance money than Punt Rd. That tells you all you need to know about her.
4. Jonathon Brown - just hates Pies too much to be taken seriously.
5. Paul Roos - uninspiring and boring. If he ever coaches the Pies, I'm done with footy.
I'd love to fit in more here, there's just so many crap commentators...Nathan Brown, Cambell Brown, Alistair Lynch, Frawley, Garry Lyon, Terry Wallace, Robbo, Tim Watson, Richo.
Out of the callers, Mcavaney, Russell, BT, sandy Roberts all annoy me. Eddie, I'm ambivalent to, although he must love doing it seeing he's still going.
The new guy on Foxtel that came from soccer is a pretty good caller. |

Not “a fan of the way he goes about it”?
“Darce” is by far the worst. I don’t mind Brereton and Blight. McAvaney is a pain, Russell grates after a while, McGuire’s a bit of a try-hard, but I don’t mind Taylor. Brenton Speed has been ok.
Does Caroline Wilson call games!? First I’ve heard of it... _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

KB is shocking , along Lyon, Ling and Carro
I enjoy Matthews , Dermie, Drew Morphett (r.i.p) , Quarterbrain was alright and i enjoy laughing at Mc Clure getting confused like a fat hen.
McGuane was a great commentator. _________________ " Ohhh Banksy and out comes the Note Book".

Dennis Cometti my number one. Not biased, funny, clearly a student of the game, has played it, has coached it. knows his stuff. Articulates what is happening perfectly.
I am a Bruce fan too with the exception when he has a favourite he bangs on about them way too much, see Franklin, Rioli etc
Gerard Whateley on ABC grandstand was brilliant.
Lyon, McGuire, Darcy, Brereton, King, Wilson all average.
Kelly Underwood was alright I thought. .Stan Alec’s special comments worth listening to.
Anthony Hudson very good too. _________________ kymbo |

Wayne Carey is the best commentator in the game right now by a long way. He is the A-Rod of the AFL (i.e., great players in their day who are complete tools, but somehow seem to transform themselves into really thoughtful, knowledgeable, insightful and, most importantly, unbiased commentators). _________________ Ohhh, the Premiership's a cakewalk ....... |

My favorite commentator, by a country mile, commentated the game we played up at Skoda (GWS) when Clokey kicked a bag.... with the glove. And we won the unwinnable.
He was right in front of us, on the fence behind the goals, proudly wearing his Pies jumper and beanie and giving the most entertaining commentary I've ever heard. _________________ Don't count the days, make the days count. |

Best, Clinton Grybas (RIP). Only provided meaningful commentary without the waffle and a good Collingwood man.
Worst, Robert Walls and Tim Lane. Always managed to add a reference to either the 1970 or 1979 premiership loss when commentating a Collingwood game. _________________ How would Siri know when to answer "Hey Siri" unless it is listening in to everything you say? |

for those who like McAvaney:
Sorry but if I have to hear about Bruce 'Arching his back' and 'Caressing his balls' one more time I think I'll scream.

Oh, don’t remind me of those two! Good riddance to bad Carlton types. _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |
