Look at the stats for the Richmond game. We were smashed at clearances. |
I'd be interested to see those... especially broken down into first 3 quarters and last quarter. |
I don't know where to find these stats, but I remember after the game seeing them somewhere, showing that even in the first half, when Grundy was dominating the hitouts, we were well beaten at centre clearances. It's clearly an area we need markedly to improve on. |

Two different body types. de Goey is closest to Greenwood and Kirby. They are more barrel chested. Sier is much more streamlined. More upright than Pendles who looks a little stooped when standing next to Sier. Both the same height though. If you want to know what a perfect posture looks like, Sier is that classic example. Sier is one of the lucky ones who will go through life without a hint of any back problems when he leaves football. |

At best, that's a 'glass half empty' interpretation. We won most of the clearances.
Additionally, we're ranked equal 5th in the competition for average clearances: https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_team_rankings
I really don't see how we can possibly have problems with clearances? |
What's the difference between an average clearance and a good clearance? |

Good clearances are when the opposition comes streaming away from the congestion and kicks 40 metres straight onto Howes chest. An average clearance is where we do more or less the same thing but land it on the chest of the other mobs CHB. Some people thought about calling that a poor clearance - but we wouldt want to be applying demeaning, negative labels, would we? |

Total Clearances - Lions 37, Pies 48
Centre - Lions 15, Pies 21
Stoppages - Lions 22, Pies 27
Was there some other type of clearance they beat us on?
Also currently ranked 6th for clearances.
Have I missed something? |
Yeah, the clearance problem was a reference to yesteryear where players had clearance problems coming to Collingowod. _________________ âI even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didnât keep âem under long enoughâ Kinky Friedman |

There are claims that it's best to sleep on the floor with as little as you can cope with in terms of padding (e.g. just a mat, if you can). If that's true, you should blame your mother for giving you a bed and mattress.
Some have written about their experience experimenting with the transition. It seems you need to adjust slowly, which is to be expected. Perhaps I can hunt down some links and post here... |

We have had an issue with clearances in certain games. Overall, though it's been a strength (bolstered by dominating the Crows):
Average difference to opponent: +2.0 (5th in comp)
Edit:
not so good for centre clearances:
-1.1 (14th in comp) _________________ Well done boys! |

^^^ Those stats suggest the hypothesis that we're good when it's really crowded, but not so good when it's not. |

AFL clubs look at the numbers within the numbers when they look at their stoppage / clearance returns.
Clearance = first effective disposal in a chain that clears stoppage area.
Clearance efficiency = slightly different in that it relates to the ball being successfully removed from a stoppage without being ( immediately ) turned over.
Clearance success rate = percentage of clearances won in relation to the number of stoppages in that game. This is becoming a stat of more interest of late because a team faces playing against so many different game styles over a season. ( ie against Brisbane were less stoppages as a consequence of game style. The percentage won becomes relevant than the number won because the overall numbers were low in the first place ) |

Stats such as scores (scoring chains) from clearances (or centre clearances) would also be interesting to see.
Maybe QM67 or MM has access to some of these stats... |
