It's only round one, and remember the Swans lost their first 6 last year and still made the finals.
However, what worries me the most is that nothing much seems to have changed from last year. Obviously we are missing some key players, but we need an infusion of class and grunt, particularly in the midfield.
After another BOG in the VFL, let's give Sier a role in our midfield. He's a brute, is fast and can kick. I just think that the usual suspects of Pendles, Sidey, Treloar and Adams are not giving us enough to be a top side. We need something new and Sier could be the one. |

Add Elliott and Fas and wed look a lot different, I think, in front of goal. Unfortunately that is weeks away. Elliott is crucial to our performance, if history is any guide. I also think we should swap Reid and Moore around. Reid is an AA CHB Darcy a contested marking threat. _________________ Two more flags before I die! |

We need a different coach, that's what we need.
Could have had Dew - oh well.

Tonight was a disaster. It's always the same players making the same mistakes. Turning the ball over by hand and foot. Seriously, what have we got in reserve? Not a lot. But if you're asking for something different then look no further than the coach and president. |

Agree Rudy. More of the same crap game style tonight.
The game has moved to a high-paced transition game. Richmond showed this.
We actually look more dangerous when we just take the game on and go forward quickly, even though the player with the ball can't see an obvious option. As long as you don't kick it straight to the opposition, kicking forward quickly can result in uncertainty and panic for the opposition defence. Goals can come out of nothing, like Richmond showed.
Our play is painstakingly slow...often going backwards and sideways.
The one positive for tonight is that our 2 debutants in Stephenson and Murray are both fast, and take the game on...so at least we have got the right type o f players in these two to play the modern game.
One other thing that frustrates me is that Grundy's tap-work is rubbish. He often gets first touch but doesn't hit it to our advantage. He should be told if he can't see a good tap option, just whack the ball forward as far as he can.
And yes, let's see some new blood. We took a chance with 3 youngsters last year in a match against Melbourne, that were considered "not ready" in Daicos, Brown, and Kirby. We had nothing to play for, Melbourne had everything to play for. Guess what...we won our best and most inspirational victory for the whole year.
A new year starts, and we go back to same-olds...all lthose 3 missing even though they had another pre-season under their belts. It doesn't make sense. |

Until Elliott, de Goey, Wells and Fasolo are all ready to go the cupboard will be pretty bare.
I like how McLarty has looked up forward during the preseason and I love that he has a competitive edge to his game and great attitude.
If Moore is to be played in defence then I want to see our only other young kpp with potential up the other end.
Reid is aging and slowing and dropped as many marks as he took tonight.
Cox is American.
Not sure that tall forward combo turns me on much but replace one with McLarty and at least it provides a spark of excitement to the masses.
Out:Cox, Smith (inj), Phillips
In:McLarty, Fasolo, Brown
Smith like Phillips are foot soldiers with excellent running ability but lack polish and will rarely be match winners.
I'm not a critic of Langdon like others but he didn't have a great night. He was caught in some unenviable positions at times though that weren't of his making so is probably being more harshly judged than he deserves. I suspect he'll be retained. _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD! |

Maybe we should just let Grundy ruck all day with brief spells of support from Moore, and then play with an extra runner. Clearly Moore and Reid need to swap ends.
Outs: Cox, Smith, Phillips
Ins: Sier, Brown, Fasolo |

It’s tolerably clear from Buckley’s presser that he intends to structure the forward line around Cox.

Can any one list our spine, end to end? Not just in the 1st's but also the 2's?
All I see is a list with 95% the same size, shape and skill.
Given it takes 4-5 years for recruits to really hit their straps, it is actually frightening how long it may take to regenerate to a competitive level.
Could a club have recruited any less poorly over the last 6 years? |

What we have now is supposed to be "different"
"Better facilities" that "guarantee success"
I've never properly understood why a club that was the biggest and best by every measure would ever need to be different.
The "different" hasn't worked and it isn't going to work while every other club leap-frogs us every year with their own brand of "different"
11 years ago when I joined Nicks I foolishly thought we could go back. Go back to being successful. Go back to being the Club that meant something, that stood for something. And not stupid misquoted throw away lines like "If you don't stand for something, you stand for nothing"....ironically the actual quote is "If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything".
"Let's make Collingwood great again" I'm still waiting for the hat to come out
Next we will get; "All you so-called supporters complaining are all dead to me"
This IS the 'new' Collingwood. You are living it.
You stand for nothing and you fall for anything
This is not the Collingwood I grew up loving. Whatever this brand is that is masquerading in our beloved black and white stripes is NOT Collingwood.
Bed is made unfortunately.... _________________ "MAKE COLLINGWOOD GRATE AGAIN" |
