Post subject: Team for Round One | |

Well the practice games are now over and the real stuff begins in less than 2 weeks, so let's look towards a possible side to play the Hawks.
Sadly, I expect Grundy to be rubbed out and unavailable. Also missing through injury are Elliott, Wells, Greenwood, De Goey and (possibly) Aish. So given these 'outs', here's my selected team for round one:
B: Murray Dunn Langdon
HB: Maynard Moore Howe
C: WHE Pendles Phillips
HF: Varcoe Reid Fasolo
F: C. Brown Cox Sidey
FOLL: McLarty, Treloar, Adams
IC: Sier, Thomas, Crisp, Stephenson
I'm sure I've overlooked someone, but there it is. |

If Grundy's out (not sure he got him high), that's pretty close.
Which of the first or second year players get a run will depend on the next practise game I'd think. I'd be very surprised if we went with four first gamers though. Sier would be very unlikely as would McLarty. Murray seems the most likely, followed by Stephenson. _________________ Well done boys! |

Well Jon Ralph has said Grundy should miss a minimum of 1 week and Varcoe as well but the Crow player who raised his elbow & hit a Port player flush on the jaw was only careless and gets a fine !!
Seriously if that happens its absolute rubbish
Rude doubt McLarty will play round 1 regardless of Grundy.
The backline won't be anything like that Hawks will play 3 quick smalls and 2 mid sized talls and Roughead so that backlin is too slow and tall.
Likely we have to play 3 small defenders with some pace plus Dunn Howe and Scharenberg
Moore could play forward and pinch hit in the ruck of Grundy is rubbed out |

There is no way in the world Grundy will be suspended for that. _________________ Don't count the days, make the days count. |

Scharenberg hasn't played in either JLT game or in AFLX so I suspect he isn't any chance for round 1 unless injury strikes.
If McLarty were to come in for a suspended Grundy then I'd imagine Cox would take first ruck duties unlike the team named by RB.
If Goldsack is fit he'll be in the 22 RB. _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD! |

You're probably right about not going so tall. But seriously, I'd be flabbergasted if Scharenberg got a game. He is simply too slow and lacks any physicality. His only asset is as an intercept mark and Howe, Langdon and Moore are all better at that anyway. |

Yeah, I agree on all points. However, the more I think about it the more likely I reckon it will be that, if Grundy is unavailable, then Cox and Moore would share the ruck duties. |

I'm a fan of Brown, but there is no way he is in my Senior squad. He gets smashed in every contest. |

It's certainly possible but if we go into the game intent on playing Moore as a key defender it would be very unusual to take a player from that role to pinch hit in the ruck as generally speaking that player comes from a forward line role. _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD! |

I’d certainly expect Aish to play ahead of Sier assuming his calf is right. Has looked very good.
If Grundy is out, I think they’d probably play Cox in the Ruck, Moore forward and Goldsack at CHB. I may be underestimating
McLarty as I haven’t seen him, and I gather he was very good v
Richmond, but they tend to be prettty conservative putting youngsters up until they are repeatedly tearing up the VFL.
That side would look a lot better with Elliott and Wells in it, but that’s the way it goes. _________________ Two more flags before I die!

I might have missed something but I would be a bit surprised if Grundy goes.
But if he does go, then Cox is an automatic replacement in the ruck.
Moore plays in the forward line for a week and then Goldy or Shaz go back to play as a tall defender against a shortish Hawks forward line.
The chop outs in the ruck just have to come from whichever tall is in the vicinity ( including the recent trend of lesser ruckman staying down, conceding the hit out and acting as an extra mid ) |

Your IC looks very weak, but that’ll be cause you’re missing A Treloar, who displaces Daicos. _________________ Two more flags before I die! |
