Seriously, Eddie MacGuire is an embarrassment to Collingwood. First the appalling King Kong comments, just as bad as those of a 13 year girl, but for which she suffered much more, and now this. Clearly puerile racism is ingrained in him, because he has proven incapable of learning from his mistakes. I remember laughing at anti-Semite stinginess jokes when I was 12 years old. Since then, I have moved on. Eddie has not. |

The two are connected. The racist tweets of Trump provide the climate for racists in general to feel emboldened. |

What a load of dribble. It was a joke based on generalisations and nothing more. Did people forget that television hosts were meant to entertain?
This doesn’t even remotely compare to the King Kong jibe which was personal.

OK, if they are meant to entertain, they should entertain. There is nothing entertaining about the puerile and totally unorigional racist jokes that Eddie has resorted to for a cheap laugh from the lowest common denominator. |

i play golf with jews and we/they joke all the time about this.
There is even a term for it. the Tel Aviv Two Tap. That is when you have two putts to win the hole and rather than go for the birdie (which is pretty rare and awesome), you hit a conservative first putt (a lag putt), to ensure you win the $1!
Eddie's problem is that you just cant say that type of stuff on a broader platform because people who are out to get him, will get him. _________________ Ohhh, the Premiership's a cakewalk ....... |

i dont think racist is the right term. Racially insensitive is probably better. Like i said, some jewish people laugh about their reputation for tightness (some embrace it). Some take offense. It is insensitive to make the joke without knowing your audience and on national TV you MUST assume your audience is the most sensitive type of person (due to the breadth of the audience).
as noted elsewhere, in the right Jewish company, i make these jokes. it is not racist to do this as they know where i am coming from and take it in the spirit its intended). I would NEVER make the same joke in an audience where i wasn't 100% sure how my audience would take it. This is because i am sensitive to others feelings. If i didn't, it doesn't make me racist. It makes me insensitive!! Still not great (and it would be nice if people weren't so insensitive), but we should be careful because we should contrast this with racism.
People should be ostracized and charged if they commit racism. People should be counselled over insensitivity. If we don't articulate the difference, we lose people who start saying there is too much political correctness in the world (and then the true racists are allowed to gain traction). This very thing is happening in the United States right now. _________________ Ohhh, the Premiership's a cakewalk ....... |

I suppose they could lump Eddie with the other Broadmeadows boy who cut his wifes eye out and then killed her in front of the kids. The perp said it was normal favour. But get your knickers in a knot over a harmless joke. Some people, including some on this board need to get some perspective or stay out of the conversation. _________________ Annoying opposition supporters since 1967. |

Spare me.
There was nothing anti-semitic in what Ed said. You seem intent on ignoring the fact that this was a joke about the stereotypes of both Jewish people and Scots. There was no malice and no disrespect involved.
Why no outrage on behalf of the Scottish people? Are you so patronising that you feel that Jewish people need you to defend them (sniping from the moral high-ground) while the Scots are probably fine because you saw 'Braveheart' once and hey, they looked pretty tough?
Outrage is a hobby for some it seems, but the simple act of being outraged doesn't make you superior - to Ed - or anyone else for that matter. |

There was nothing offensive in what Eddie said and I'm amazed with the over reaction of the media. I found it funny. Jack Benny, who is Jewish, made jokes about his own stinginess with money. People should read Arthur Miller's "The Crucible" because if this over reaction of everything in the news continues, Melbourne's weather event being the latest, we all face being arrested for laughing at a joke we're not meant to and all creativity and innovation will be extinguished in society. This is where the human rights lawyers and socialist left greenies are taking us. |

This political correctness just seems never ending and although not related to Eddie,s situation it highlights the obvious agenda to change things
There now is a suggestion to change the cricket term batsman to bat person
Soon no ruck men ,just ruck person
Oh dear what got us to this point of human history _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |
