What the hell is Black Friday and when did it suddenly become a thing worthy of reporting on? _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD! |

I suspect the question is rhetorical, but in case it is not, it’s the day after Thanksgiving in the US. Being a holiday Friday, retailers used it to sell a lot of of discounted surplus stock. Because anything that sells more stuffing is adopted by retailers everywhere (see Mothers’ and Fathers’ and Valentines Day and even Halloween FFS) and because consumers are too silly to resist, it’s ours to keep, alas.
In its defence, I don’t know how it is in Australia, but in England it is genuinely a day when things seem to be sold more cheaply than usual, unlike the invented days I mentioned above. Like the post-Christmas sales, it is one of the few days where it might actually be worth going out to buy something you might not normally want, if it was full price. _________________ Two more flags before I die! |

One big thing about it in the US is that purchases are tax-free, which can make a considerable difference if you're buying something like a car or even a plasma tv, or whatever. |

With the extra sales, it put traders back in the black. We really don't another Americanism in our world. |

Holy crap, we have some serious rain forecast for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Be careful if you plan on being anywhere close to a waterway of any description or a low lying area. _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD! |

I hope not, with the rain forecast they could find themselves 200m up in the air when the rain stops. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

So, seriously, what’s everyone doing house-protection wise? I heard a suggestion that cleaning the roof gutters is advised... otherwise, sandbags? _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

cant reach the gutters! we have quite a slope down to the road so shouldnt need sandbags. had to go out in the middle of a storm once to let some water out of the pool, but its evaporated a heap in the last week and its about 5 inches from the top so should be ok.
i just cleaned up anything that might get caught in the wind and fly through a window or break. folded down the chairs, took the washing line cover off (it shredded once before), tied up the pool cover so it doesnt shred, and cleaned up the tools and stuff where hubby is building a deck.
taking hubbies ranger and the van to the workshop so they are under cover. (apparently there could be some big hail!). if the wind gets really bad, close the blinds and stay away from the windows!
oh and stock up on food and alcohol!! _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |
