Well, up until now Shaun Tait has just been a quickie with some promise. After today, people will take a bit more notice.

He took 8/42 from 9.3 overs against Tasmania in their ING Cup match at the Adelaide Oval.

The Tigers still totalled a competitive 250 due to good innings' from Dighton, 87 and Watson, 78.

Those interested in Boof Lehmann's return would have been pleased with his 2/24 from 5 overs.

The Redbacks are 2/41 after 6 overs. Davison whacked 17 from 11 balls but Blewett went for 2. Wright got them both.

Good news for Lehmann supporters.

He got the Redbacks home with a 83 from 88 balls. Miller scored 51 and Wright took 4/51 for the Tigers.

Deano has said that Tait must come into the team sooner rather than later and he must go to Sri Lanka

Some of the players were on the turps at Steve Waughs testimonial and Deano blasted them for saying they were tired as a result. If you cant get motivated in front of 70,000 people then dont play........lol

Manou hit the sign in the last over and won 50k and then hit a four of the fifth ball of the final over to win the game for SA.

Could Manou be good enough to be a back up to Gilchrist ahead of Haddin ???

Tait is certainly quite quick and has the potential to be destructive. He also seems prone to being all over the place with line and length, which is something that Brett Lee is under fire for.

The criticism of Lee is justified and certainly Tait looks potentially more penetrative than most trundling away from ALL states. It is amusing however to hear those mixing up the tar and feathers advocating the emergence of a likely Lee clone.

Um they say Tait actually SWINGS the ball more than Brett Lee does.

I think Brett Lee needs some proper bowling tuition to help fine tune his game. Im sure Brett relied mainly on his pace when progressing through the various grades of cricket. However when you come up against the best batting line up in the world in batter friendly conditions you need more than pace to take wickets.

Yes, especially when that pace is GONE.

Tait 'ready for Australia'

By Sam Lienert - Fox Sports

SOUTH Australian captain Darren Lehmann believes young Redbacks paceman Shaun Tait is ready to play for Australia after taking a record wicket-haul in an ING Cup match.

Tait, 20, took 8-43 against Tasmania in SA's win in their day-night match at Adelaide Oval last night, the first ever eight-wicket haul in Australia's domestic limited overs competition.

Lehmann said it was a continuation of the strong form Tait had shown in his first full season, after making his SA debut midway through last season.

His fierce pace and ability to swing the ball has already grabbed the attention of national selectors, with Tait making the Australia A sides this season in both the three-day and one-day formats.

Lehmann said he was ready to take the next step in both forms of the game.

"He bowled beautifully, he has bowled well for the whole season, we're really happy with his progress and hopefully soon he'll get the nod to play for Australia," Lehmann said.

"The way he's bowling he's good enough to play for Australia.

"Obviously he's got to displace one of the bowlers that's playing at the moment and that's hard work.

"He's an exceptional bowler and it's just a case of him continuing to get wickets and putting pressure on the blokes in the national side."

Tait's figures last night could have been even better, had it not been for him conceding 13 wides and six no-balls.

But his mixture of inaccurate deliveries with unplayable ones is a regular feature of his game.

"It's usually the way it's been this year for me, I've bowled wide, no-ball and then a wicket," he said.

"I've bowled all over the shop a fair bit, but the ones that are on the wicket and good balls usually are wicket balls."

He said the eight-wicket haul was something that would probably happen only once in a career.

"You have days where you bowl really well and don't get wickets and you have days where you lay them up and don't bowl so well and you end up doing that," he said.

Maybe they should play him in a one day game this summer, put Lee out for awhile and see if Tait can handle it. Maybe it could also spark Lee into bowling better and not bowling so many no balls.

Tait was "aired" in the A match in Hobart where both his strengths and weaknesses were apparent. Nonetheless he, along with the more mature Nicholson, were the bowlers who most looked the part.

Proto's thought has some merit, depending on the state of the series. I do however stand by my opinion re Tait's similarity to Lee. Both depend on hitting good rhythm in order to generate pace and swing. If on song, both prone to shall we say irregular line and length. Still he is worth a try, as long as people don't paint him out to be some sort of pace bowling messiah.

He just took the first wicket in the Pura Cup game against Tassie. Mason for a duck.
